La Palma #4: Hike in the Caldeira de Taburiente with coloured waterfall [EN/GER]

Today we go hiking in the well-known national park Caldeira de Taburiente.

In the morning, we drive to Los Llanos. From there, we follow the signs for the parking Barranco de las Angustias.
The parking lot is, as the name says, in a canyon, so we have to drive down a few miles - on a narrow, small street.
Once at the bottom, there are taxis waiting for the hikers to take them up to the rim.

If you want to do that hike, you will not pass by the taxi service - you cannot pass the street to the starting point with your own car and neither get to this starting point on foot (at least not if you want to do the hike in one day).
Normally, you have to wait at the parking spot until you built a small group with other hikers, so that the ride is not too expensive (about 60 € for the ride).

However, we were lucky and were allowed to get directly into the car. And since we were a group of 7 people and thus formed a whole group, we even came before a waiting couple's turn - at this point, thanks to the taxi driver!

The drive to the starting point at Mirador de los Brecitos is already an adventure in itself. The kind taxi driver drives the van at considerable speed up the very narrow and steep road that winds along the mountain.
At the starting point, he says friendly goodbye and leaves us alone with the backpacks and about 13 miles and 1300 m of descend to be walked.

The trail is beautiful and leads mostly through a beautiful coniferous forest. Even if it goes mostly downhill, the hike is quite exhausting because of the heat and the dryness.

On the way, we hardly meet any other hiker and after about 2.5 hours, we arrive at the Playa de Taburiente.

Unfortunately, the water level is very low and everything is very dry, so you can’t really name this a Playa with bathing options as it normally is. What a pity!
Nevertheless, we are happy about the beautiful landscape.

After a short break, we continue our hike.
We are no longer in the forest now but walk in the blazing sun, which is quite exhausting.

We take another break at the Cascada de Colores . The color spectacle, which comes from the minerals in the water, is absolutely worth a visit.

At higher water levels, it is certainly much more impressive!
From the Cascada de Colores, we continue to walk down the riverbed.

In the afternoon, we finally arrive at the parking area - quite sweaty and exhausted but with wonderful pictures!
And the best: There is an ice cream van waiting for us directly at the parking area - what a nice coincidence, right?

Wanderung im Caldeira de Taburiente mit farbenfrohem Wasserfall

Heute machen wir eine große Wanderung im bekannten Nationalpark Caldeira de Taburiente.

Wir starten vormittags mit den Autos und fahren nach Los Llanos. Von dort aus folgen wir den Beschilderungen zum Parkplatz Barranco de las Angustias.
Der Parkplatz befindet sich, wie der Name schon sagt, in einer Schlucht, sodass wir einige Kilometer abwärts fahren müssen – auf einer engen, kleinen Straße.

Unten angekommen, wartet dann ein Taxi auf uns, das uns zum Ausgangspunkt der Wanderung bringt.

Falls ihr die Wanderung machen wollt, kommt ihr an dem Taxiservice nicht vorbei – mit dem eigenen Auto darf man die Strecke nicht passieren und zu Fuß kommt man nicht an diesen Ausgangspunkt (zumindest nicht, wenn man die Wanderung an einem Tag bestreiten will).

In der Regel muss am Parkplatz gewartet werden, bis dass sich eine kleine Gruppe von 5-9 Wanderern zusammengefunden hat, damit die Fahrt nicht zu teuer wird (ca. 60 € für die Fahrt).
Wir hatten jedoch Glück und durften direkt in das Auto steigen. Und da wir zusammen 7 Personen waren und somit eine ganze Gruppe bildeten, kamen wir sogar vor einem wartenden Pärchen an die Reihe – an dieser Stelle Danke an den Taxifahrer!

Die Fahrt zum Ausgangspunkt am Mirador de los Brecitos ist schon ein Abenteuer für sich. Der nette Taxifahrer fährt den Van mit beträchtlicher Geschwindigkeit die sehr schmale und steile Straße hinauf, die sich am Berg entlangschlängelt.
Am Ausgangspunkt verabschiedet er sich freundlich von uns und lässt uns mit den Rucksäcken und den circa 13 zu bestreitenden Kilometern und 1300 m Abstieg alleine.

Wundervolle Aussichten direkt am Startpunkt des Wanderweges

Es geht also vor allem abwärts – durch die starke Sonne und die Trockenheit allerdings keine zu unterschätzende Wanderung!

Der Wanderweg ist wunderschön und führt größtenteils durch einen wunderschönen Nadelwald.

Unterwegs treffen wir kaum anderer Wanderer. Nach ca. 2,5 h kommen wir an die Playa de Taburiente.

Leider ist der Wasserpegel sehr niedrig und alles sehr trocken, sodass von einer Playa mit Bademöglichkeiten kaum die Rede sein kann. Schade! Denn der Taxifahrer hatte uns gesagt, dass das Wasser magisch ist und man wegen seiner heiligen Wirkung unbedingt darin baden muss.
Wir freuen uns trotzdem über die schöne Landschaft.

Nach einer kleinen Pause geht es weiter.
Wir sind mittlerweile nicht mehr im Nadelwald sondern laufen in der prallen Sonne, was ganz schön anstrengend ist.

Am Cascada de Colores machen wir eine weitere Pause. Das Farbschauspiel, das durch mineralhaltiges Wasser entsteht, ist auf jeden Fall sehenswert.

Bei höherem Wasserstand ist es allerdings bestimmt deutlich beeindruckender!
Von dem Cascada de Colores aus laufen wir das Flussbett entlang abwärts.

Nachmittags kommen wir schließlich verschwitzt, erschöpft und mit wundervollen Bildern im Gepäck wieder am Parkplatz an.
Das beste: Es erwartet uns zufälliger Weise ein Eiswagen direkt am Wanderparkplatz. Was für ein schöner Zufall und Abschluss, oder?
