Travel With Me #14: Niagara Falls, New York USA

Dear Steemit Friends,

I wanted to share my journey to Niagara Falls, New York, USA with you. I hope you enjoy it.

Niagara Falls, New York in the United States is an international boundary between the United States of America and Canada. The city is within the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area and is approximately 15 miles (24 km) from Buffalo, New York.

After arriving into Buffalo International Airport we met some friends and had lunch at The Anchor Bar. The history about the Anchor Bar is that on March 4th, 1964 an employee named Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now-famous Anchor Bar Restaurant in Buffalo, NY. On that night a group of Dominic's friends arrived at the bar and wanted something to eat. Dominic asked his mother to prepare something for his friends to eat. His mother only had some chicken wings available that were normally used in soups. She decided to cover them with breading and cook them by deep-frying them. Then she put some sauce on the wings to give them flavor. Dominic's friends loved them and they were soon added to the menu at the Anchor Bar. This is the story of how 'chicken wings' got their name.

After having a great lunch we checked into our hotel in Niagara Falls and began touring the area. There are many great hotels near the falls and you can walk across the U.S. Canada Border.

The pictures below show the beauty of Niagara Falls but unfortunately you have to visit in person to hear the noise from the powerful waterfall crashing into the river below.

The Skylon Tower, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, is an observation tower that overlooks both the American Falls, New York, and the larger Horseshoe Falls, Ontario, from the Canadian side of the Niagara River.

The Maid of the Mist is a boat ride that takes you very close to the falling water. You will hear the fury and power of the falling water as it is slamming against the water hundred feets below. The splashing and the wind creates a 'mist' and as the boat gets closer you will get wet. It was definitely worth the ride.

There is nothing quite like seeing Niagara Falls at night. There is music that will play and a light show that displays in rhythm against the falling water. It is quite a sight to see.

Niagara Falls experiences cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers. Precipitation is moderate in all seasons. The city has snowier than average winters compared to most cities in the USA. The hottest and coldest temperatures recorded in the past decade were 97 °F (36 °C) in 2005 and -13 °F (-25 °C) in 2003.

Most of the water freezes in the winter time because of the frigid temperatures in the city. There is a walkway that cascades down along the falls. It is built in April every year and gets taken down in November in order to preserve it from nature's adverse elements. Below are some pictures showing what this beautiful Natural Wonder looks like in the cold Winter months.

I think the best time to visit Niagara Falls, New York is May through October.

I engaged in many tourist activities during my visit to Niagara Falls, NY.
Here is My Top List of Things To Do in Niagara Falls:

  1. Maid of the Mist
  2. Visit the Skylon Tower on the Canada side It has restaurants and shops. There are casinos there too.
  3. Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens & Butterfly Conservatory (Free)
  4. Aquarium of Niagara The aquarium is home to more than 1,000 different species of both fresh- and salt-water critters, including sharks, seals, penguins and a wide variety of colorful fish.
