Ready for an adventure in the wilds of Australia and you've got some SBD to burn?
Then this series may just be what you need! Forget the usual destinations, let's take a look at a sight, lodging, and dining that is unique in each of the six states!
Today we are visiting...
South Australia!
South Australia is known for its wilderness and interesting wildlife! (Also, people living in opal mines.)
When you think Australia, you don't think Penguins, do you? What about seals?
Well, pop over to Kangaroo Island!
A little mass of land with a big experience awaiting the adventurer! It is 112 KM (or 70 miles) from the mainland and features 509 KM of coastline absolutely CRAWLING with wildlife.
Getting around the island is easy if you bring your own car or rent one. The ferry will gladly bring it across with you!
And if just looking at animals isn't enough, then look into the incredible list of extreme activities available!
Cave exploring, paintballing, and quad-biking are all on the docket!
History museums, animal encounter tours, walking/hiking, a farmers market with amazing local produce, health spas, and incredible art galleries are also a huge draw to the island!
It literally has something for everyone!
So you've got a place to check out, now you need a place to check in!
Desert Cave Hotel!
Coober Pedy is a unique place on all it's own, as most of it's residents actually live UNDERGROUND.
That's right, there are Australian Molepeople.
Well, one person realized that people were intrigued by this way of living but maybe they weren't ready to commit to their own permanent abode below the soil.
So the Desert Cave came to be.
If you're feeling a bit claustrophobic, there ARE above ground rooms available, but they definitely don't look anywhere near as cool!
There are tons of things to see in the surrounding area, especially if you wish to look for some opals!
But if you want to stay in (and down under) the hotel offers underground shopping, cafes, a bar, gaming room, and even an opal and fossil learning center!
(Oh, and they tout golfing on a grassless green!)
Now that you've seen some unique sights and had a restful cave nap, how about some local noms?
Make a reservation at Treasury 1860!
Treasury 1860 is a beautiful (and reasonably priced) place to eat! They specialize in introducing people to all of the wonderful, tasty local produce, meat, and drinks!
Everything comes from their backyard!
The dinner menu even offers a blackened kangaroo loin!
If you aren't feeling up to eating a full, fancy meal, you can also take a casual lunch in the courtyard, or grab some pub munchies with style in the bar!
They also have an extensive selection of local beers, wine, and crafted cocktails!
(And yes, they even serve breakfast a la carte style!)
Check out their websites!
Stay tuned for more sights and must-sees of Australia!

"Reasonably price"? My reasonable price is $15. It looks like a nice place to take someone.
