Sunrise at Bromo volcano in Cemoro Lawang, Java, Indonesia

One of the most famous tourist attractions in Indonesia is watching the sunrise at Bromo volcano in East Java. And there is a pretty good reason why people go there:

The view is priceless!

How to get there

  1. Make your way to Probolinggo first. You can get there by bus or train from any major city on Java.
  2. Take a bemo to Cemoro Lawang. Bemos are located outside the bus terminal in Probolinggo. They run between 9 am until early evening. Bemos will leave once they are full. So make sure you bring some time.
  3. Find a place to stay in Cemoro Lawang. There are many small homestays along the main road in Cemoro Lawang. Don't expect luxury, but it's good enough to spend a night.
  4. Organize transport to the view point. If you are fine walking uphill for about an hour during the night you don't need to arrange anything. But it's much easier to pay for an ojek, a motorbike taxi, to drive you to the view point.
  5. Get some sleep. And don't forget to set your alarm clock.
  6. Ready for sunrise? Get up, meet your driver & go to see this 😍

What to bring

It gets pretty cold up there. Bring shoes, long pants and a jacket. If you are traveling light and you don't have a thick jacket in your backpack, don't worry. You can buy a beenie and gloves and even rent a proper winter jacket in Cemoro Lawang.

Enjoy the sunrise and take a lot of pictures!
