hi there, I'd say it depends on the problem. I can imagine situations one would not want to address directly to the guests, but mostly one could easy go into a confrontation - maybe you / the other part can learn something new?

Like when a smoker is sitting in a cafe, he asks first if it is ok for the people around him and if they don't mind he lights up a cigarette.
