mosque.jpg Super cheap. If you eat local food, which is excellent (it actually is I'm not just saying that to sound like I'm at one with the locals... hate those people - the gloaters not the locals), then it's even cheaper. Beer is about $1.50, transport is cheap whatever type you take (although boda boda is probably the cheapest), and hostels are cheap too.

Plus, most people speak English, except in the slums. Another bonus is that there aren't a lot of backpackers there. You'll see people who look like backpackers, and will stay in hostels, but they pretty much all are missionaries, or working for NGOs and are taking a holiday. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against backpackers, it's just that when areas have a high density of them, the area usually turns to shit.
