Travel to Xiamen (厦门市) with me! Holiday Photo-Journal (Ed. 3)

Hello again Steemit friends and new potential followers.

I am so happy to have cracked 200 followers !! That’s a milestone for me on Steemit, next stop is 500 (fingers crossed).

In this episode, I am going to focus on my trip to Xiamen and Quanzhou in South Eastern China. They are both located on the China Mainland just above Taiwan. (as per the map below)

Xiamen is definitely not my favourite place I’ve ever visited in China. But I went with zero expectations and I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. I booked a comfortable tiny apartment off AirBnb and it was extremely comfortable, the owners actually took me to dinner and paid ? haha Great hospitality in Southern China, that's for sure!

When you fly into Xiamen, you will notice it is actually quite a small island as below.

Gulangyu Beach is located off the south of Xiamen. It's a very popular tourist spot and the sand at the beach is very soft. Great spot to have a swim in the warm water.

I had never been this far south in China previous to this trip and I spent around 10 days exploring the street food and looking around the city. I had had the street food in Shanghai before, but this was different, there was a big focus on seafood here.

As usual I ventured off on my food expedition and here are some of the tasty foods I found in Xiamen.

After looking around Xiamen for a couple of days I took a trip by train to Quanzhou, I managed to do it with zero Chinese language skills, so anyone can travel in China. I did need to present my passport to purchase a ticket.

Then to my surprise , I found some amazing street food the next few days in Quanzhou, some different and some favourites.

I think people were wondering why I was so happily snapping the colourful treasures and not eating them all.

It is just like a wonderland of coloured baskets full of different proteins on sticks , vegetables and everything you could possibly want to eat standing up really!

I pronounce you 'Quanzhou Crepe' - not actually sure what they are called - but they are fairly delicious!

The video below of what I refer to as the 'Quanzhou Crepe' complete with a slither of hotdog, lettuce, pork crackling? and an amazing brown sauce! (apologies for the non-landscape video, i usually tell people off for filming like this)

Thank you kindly to the street food vendors in Quanzhou, they are extremely photogenic and I think they could tell I have a passion for street food and smiles.

Give me meat on a stick anyway and cover it with lots of spicy chilli sauce please! Actually - make it two!

I know , I know, some people take photos of sunsets, I do to. However, once I find a neighbourhood dedicated to this kind of nightly activity, I am won over.

This wasn't the greatest of peking ducks we have ever tasted, but the mushroom looking steamed pork dumplings were amazing!

Always carry some mosquito repellant in Quanzhou - you will literally be eaten alive otherwise!

Now I have no problem with drinking Chinese beer, I am actually very fond of it, I don't often encounter many beers in China i don't like. However, after stumbling across this American owned beer house, I must admit, I felt right at home!
