Could not agree with you more @kiligirl , Mother nature is throwing us some mean curve balls :( Unfortunately I do not know the name of the species, here is a better picture of it. 
Maybe a bird watcher could help us out :)

Thanks for the better picture, and I agree with you, perhaps we should get a seabird expert to check it out for us. I know just the person - @scienceguy, can you identify this bird for us? It was seen on an Atlantic Ocean crossing from Gibraltar to Sint Maarten in the Caribbean, so latitudes quite a bit farther north than you're used to :-).
