Barely alive in India, send strength...

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hey again, Steemitizens,

Just a quick note to let you all know I am still alive, especially to the dozens of you who have to private message me every day, which I appreciate, but with so many of you who choose to communicate one on one instead of in the public discord channels I just cannot keep up. Especially on the shifty thing that India pretends to call the "internet" here.

I wake up most days to 20-40 people who private message me just to say hello. I appreciate you thinking of me, I really do, but its gotten out of control with so many of you. I guess each one thinks they may be the only one messaging me, and I do love you all, so I feel I must answer each person, sometimes that turns into hours of chat, and I have a hard time managing all that. I'm sorry if you feel I am not responsive enough, but consider that there are as many as 50 of you all just wanting to say hello.... Perhaps we can all say hello just ONCE in a public channel and cover many people at once that way in far less of my very carefully budgeted time? I would truly appreciate that.

So I continue to visit India, with Hong Kong and Macau remaining on my trip this weekend. I have lots of stories to tell from the first weekend in The Netherlands and in Abu Dhabi UAE, but the internet here has been tough to work with, and my laptop keeps blowing the guest house power breakers. The stories will have to wait. I am risking this post now and hopefully can finish before I kill the electricity again.

Mostly I want you to know I have been very very sick for two days. Something I ate nearly killed me.

I am feeling a bit better today, which is good, because the wedding I came here to be a part of is tonight.

I am exhausted, feeling week and unable to sleep or eat properly, so the trip has taken a bit of a dive. With any luck, it will pass before my next flight at the end of the week.

Wish me luck and send energy or prayers or whatever you can for my health to recover quickly, because being sick in a country where they don't speak your language and their stores don't have your comfort foods and drinks is a real bitch.

Add the massive influx of mosquitoes here, thankfully not virus carrying ones, and I look like I have a rash, Im pale from vomiting for days and weaker than I need to be, to be solo in a foreign country.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I miss you all.

I'll be in touch more, eventually.

Yours in service
@SirCork

That sucks and blows. But my guess is that it will become part of the @Sircork lore as the tale unfolds. :) May your bowles find rest and peace my friend. :)

Haha I made it home alive! The stories are coming, trust me!

Oh no, so sorry you got sick on your trip! Hopefully, you are feeling better now and can enjoy the rest of it. <3

Thanks pretty lady, I lived, and it was an amazing journey!

Hey buddy! Sorry to hear about your condition. :/
Please ask me anything you'd like to translate. What would you like? What are you favorite foods? I'll suggest you some restaurants/shops to get 'em from.
Please also refer to this website for some natural cure for food poisoning.
Hope everything becomes alright soon! :)
(do get a mosquito repellent cream!)

I got the natural mosquito cream right away for sure. I am finding even foods I consider my "favorites" or familiar, simply are not the same here at all. Even simple things like orange juice or milk. Very different than what I am used to. My friends are helping me to survive.

Where are you in India? I am presently in Salt Lake Sector of Kolkata., West Bengal.

Oh good to hear your friends are helping!
I'm in New Delhi. :)
How'd the marriage go? Ate at the buffet? Haha!

Haha, I looked at the buffet and it appeared amazing, but i was only able to last about 20 minutes there before I had to go back to my guest house and lay down :(

The couple looked beautiful!

Wow that must be one of the worst feelings ever; not being able to eat to heart's content. I know it is for me!
Yep, people tend to dress up/decorate themselves a lot in their marriages. 😂

Take good care my friend! And enjoy the wedding, I hope :)

Missed it, made 20 min of the reception and had to bail to lay down. But I lived, and we got some good photos in that 20 min, making the proof I showed up at least :D

haha glad to hear you're all better now!

I'm so sorry that you fell sick. I was worried about that happening. But here's some love from your two most adoring fans who miss you terribly.

Awww, their faces are how they look when they know I am sick. Did you tell them I was ill?

I Miss them terribly back.

I certainly did tell them you aren't feeling the greatest, but that you're getting better and will be here to see them soon. :-)

I can tell Thor knows....

They really are the sweetest dogs ever.

Wish me luck and send energy or prayers or whatever you can for my health to recover quickly, because being sick in a country where they don't speak your language and their stores don't have your comfort foods and drinks is a real bitch.

Take care, man. No fun to get ill in a country that's not your own. Talking from experience here.

We'll be here when you get back. Take it easy and try to enjoy it there!

Thanks, it wasn't fun at all being sick, but overall, the trip was amazing!!!

"My great and dear friend, I am truly grateful for everything you have done and continue to do for me. Always in spite of your occupations, you are aware of what happens to me and you are there to give me your shoulder if I need it."

Having known you has changed me completely and I feel that now I am a better person because your teachings have penetrated me. The generosity that you have always shown with others has been a great example in my life. I love you.

I hope you get better soon and keep enjoying your great adventure in those beautiful places, God bless you always! @sircork

Wow, that's saying a lot, as I've really done so little. But I like you, and you in turn inspire ME to be a better man! Maybe we can get others into this awesome circle of inspiration!

Those glowing lights worked a miracle, I rolled a 20 and dodged death! Thank you!!!!

Never mind ;) welcome back my friend.

Awesome rol You gained health and experience and a whole point of STEE... I mean ... WILL POWER.

Ha ha foreign places can kick you in the butt, food is always one to double check before throwing down your neck.

Mozzies are a pain, small enough to keep coming back for seconds. (You are the new flavour in town)

Well sure hope you feel better to enjoy the rest of your visit, as for the internet connections, something you got to learn to live with when in some parts of the world...

‘If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito’. African proverb

Damn your prophecy! haha, i had a frigging mosquito torturing me later that night! bzzzzzz slap, damn, bzzzzz slap, damn, bzzzzzz slap....

I lived though. The mosquito didn't make it.

Thank God, you are fine. I wish you quick recovery and safe journey to and from the rest of your journey.

Thank you so much!

Heyyyyyyyyyy sir!!!! Do you wana visit Pakistan? It is on the border with India.

I wanted to visit everywhere, but there wasn't enough time and money. There must be more trips!

Where are you in India ? May be I can call you or offer some help ?

Sadly I didn't see this till I got home. I had some connectivity issues for several days. But thank you for the offer, I was in Kolkata.

That was pretty near by, 300 miles approx. Glad to see you back in action.

Thank you!

Sending well wishes!
Wish they were whale wishes... ;-)
Take care and get well.
Hong Kong phuey that bug. May have to Sake it, watch that water it will kill you!
Namaste

I kicked it's ass before it kicked mine brotha, turned it up to a higher level, we got this!

So sorry to hear you have Delhi Belly! As someone who has visited India many times may I suggest a local remedy there that always works for me?

Ask for the water of a green coconut..that is the coconut still inside the husk. They will lop the top of it off with a machete and stick a straw into it for you with the husk still on the outside.
The straw sits in the water around the actual coconut and this is what you must drink

Raw natural coconut water has many healing properties and has saved me several times especially when I traveled in rural India and ate the wrong thing!
Hope you feel better very soon :-)

Those coconut vendors were all over Kolkata, and i wanted to have one, but never seemed to be stopped by one long enough. We had them all around florida where I lived for a decade as well.

Good advice. It turned out to be children's lime popsicles that got me through! :D

So good to read from you, i am glad you are getting better with your health, But i think the sudden illness is as a result of change in weather.

I wouldn't wish this no anyone.
Hahahahaha that is the "Experience" Friend. I pray you get well ASAP.

I got better, and thank you!

Hi @sircork. Sorry about your health. The language barrier can piss someone off sometimes. You sounded as if your trip to India has been all bad. What is the good about it?

I wish you very quick recovery.

Oh its not the language barrier, but the lack of understanding about some basic health necessities has been a bit disturbing. There are serious hygiene issues in this country. It's a bit surprising and frightening that a country this old with this big of a population has some pretty basic misunderstandings of how bacteria and germs work (public food stands on the streets at the museums provide water in pitchers that hundreds of strangers all drink from, for example, without any washing between users. Yikes!

There have been many wonderful moments here as well, but those will get their own stories. This post wasn't about those.

I was in the hospital last night. That was a pretty surprising experience as well. Really pretty shocking that most doctors in US are Indian now, but here, they seem pretty behind the times...

Thank you for the best wishes.

Oh, I see. In that case, I feel it will be good if you can tidy up your mission as soon as possible (ASAP) and zoom out from there. Although medically, your body system may acclimatise with the environment over time.

Don't be too bothered, you will be fine.

You are welcome

or must have been the water. I remember getting sick after drinking some tea. So unfortunately it was all soda afterwards.

Hope you get better.

After 4 days of vomiting so far, trying to find just one thing that tastes familiar at ALL, I am afraid of pretty much everything that goes in my mouth here now. That's a scary place to be.

I tried to kind of give you a heads up of how it is over there, glad you are doing better......everyone I know who was trying to get a taste of the culture wound up in that situation, eeep

Get better my friend! I am sending some healing energy your way to get ya on the mend. Hopefully you recover quickly, and get on with having a good trip. :-)

Thanks, it worked, the rest of the trip was amazing! Posts, coming soon!

OMG @sircork may your receive strenght and be whole in your body. Let the power of wholeness rest upon you and every rashes will disappear. I love you and God bless you.

Sorry brother. YAH🍻PicsArt_03-06-05.51.15.jpg

This is the best comment/prayer ever! Thank you so much my brother!

Oh my... i think i need to tell you about first world stomachs, traveler's diahrrea and the vaccine called Dukoral. Too late for you to take it on this trip but please Google it and take it on time for your next trip. It's supposed to be taken some weeks in advance of the travel so you build the protection in your gut. NOT fun... I experienced it in a trip to Egypt some time ago. Best wishes and speedy recovery. Still you should be able to buy probiotics and rebuild your flora.

I was able to survive and get on with a good time. Thank you for the advice. I will certainly consider it before my next journey!

Very cool to hear you visited my birth country, the Netherlands! Where did you went?
And do you maybe know if India is save enough for a girl alone.. I am a little bit in doubt if I wanna go there alone next trip..
Thank you so much in Advance!

Regards,
Sha

I believe India can be traversed by a woman alone, in major cities, in public spaces, in daylight, otherwise, maybe not so much.

I was in Woerden NL, and it was incredible, one of my favorite places in the world now!

Thank you for your advice! Than it should be okay to go there :)

I can barely believe you made it until there! It is indeed a beautiful place, I never visited the place but there is a television serie recorded in the town! So, how did you end up there?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Because of steem of course! My dear friend @poeticsnake and her other local steemian friends all live out in Woerden so it became my destination there to meet in person, people I have known so closely and so well on the steem platforms and communities for almost a year!

Wow, please be strong Sir , we cant afford to loose you , you are such a blessing to us

That is very kind of you to say! Thank you! I won't die, but for a short while it felt like I might! <3

Hey my friend, so sorry to read that you are not feeling well. Take the next flight to Mauritius man, it's only 6 hours flight and i'll take full care of you for sure.
Feed yourself with maximum fruits if you can. I know how difficult it can be when getting sick in a foreign country.
Take care man.

I ate a lot of bananas, but with the illness, the crazy thing that saved the day was lime popsicles! LOL

I will get to your place, for sure, but when I do, I want to come for a week, so we can get some good fishing and food dishing in for sure!

I will bring SBDs to spend in your cafe! I hope business is booming!
