Exploring The Sagano Bamboo Forest - Highlights Of Traveling Japan

in travel •  8 years ago

While in Japan, Michelle and I walked through one of the most famous and beautiful forests in the country.

The Sagano Bamboo Forest is located in the Arashiyama district of western Kyoto next to the Hozu River. Arashiyama is notably popular during both the cherry blossom(just a few weeks every spring) and fall seasons.

What stood out to me was the sheer amount of bamboo and the the way the sun filtered through the densely packed stalks.

Bamboo is actually one of the fastest growing plants on earth. The brown bamboo stalk seen below is a new shoot that is only 3-4 days old. The brown stalks are still tender and soft. You could easily push one over with limited effort.

Much of the bamboo in the forest is connected and once you factor in the maturity of the plants at Arashiyama, you can easily imagine how fast the forest grows due to the resources and scale of the bamboo plant system. Normal Bamboo can't grow this fast.

Need I remind you, that you were a big inspiration for me, when I first met you at Anarchapulco to start and pursue Steemit? Well, I think you produce great content! I also like that you revisit your pictures after your travels. Sometimes it seems like I stay in my room all day, preparing content for Steem instead of exploring more ;D. My picture box is overflowing.

Slick post man! Great place to rock the tank. How long does a bamboo stalk live normally? I assume most of those have reached their full height?

Bamboo is awesome. I once built a small boat out of if - it's just an awesome material. But be aware, once you plant it in your garden it will grow everywhere!

That was awesome and beautiful. I hope i will be able go there one day too.

I would love to see a bamboo forest in person. Thank you for sharing!
