Sometimes, there’s just nothing to say, so should I say nothing?

in travel •  6 years ago  (edited)

Steem is down, where all the other coins seems to be holding their ground, there’s not many posts and I’m feeling a little uninspired today.

I sometimes I have to remind myself that Steemit is a blogging platform, and not reserved for those ‘serious articles’ exclusively.

It’s great to write about your experiences of walking on the planet Venus, skydiving without parachutes or running naked through New York with your underpants tied to your head, but life just isn’t that exciting every day is it?

I had a look today through my iPhone pictures in search of something to write about. I tried to climb that dratted mountain Pen-y-ghent last weekend, got more than 70% up but failed to bring any food or water with us.

A little stupid really as it was full of hikers with all their fancy gear plus myself and my daughter with nothing but the clothes on our backs.

We were getting a little thirsty on the ascent and those lovely mountain streams you hear about were nowhere to be seen.

The mountain defeated me again, so should I tell you all about this? Well I am because I don’t have much more to say today. It was a bleak cloudy day but the heavens didn’t open and drench us.

I also visited Bolton and took some snaps of graffiti in a renovated old train station. I think it’s been there since those days, but they have decided to just leave it and it adds to the flavour somewhat. Now it’s a shopping mall and restaurant outlet.

Nando’s decided to leave the original graffiti on their goods in door.

Even the toilets in this place are art driven, a skull on the wall?

Lastly, we had a walk on the Leeds/Liverpool canal a few weeks ago. It was in the East Marton area in West Yorkshire, but again it was nothing spectacular.

We passed an ancient church, spotted some gunge in the canal and had some nice views of the countryside. There were also some colourful barges docked up.

The last snap is close to East Marton and not in the deep Amazon rainforest as it appears to be.

Do I need spectacular words and photographs to create something readable?

Well there’s your THREE-IN-ONE post from me today. I don’t think any of these are worthy in their own right but maybe together they may just make for one, especially as there isnt a lot else out there right now!

You claim you feel like you have nothing to say, and then you go on to deliver one of the best travel blog posts I've read this month! Don't sell yourself short, man.

I get the 'feels like my content dried up' feeling fairly regularly, and I'll take a few days off to post. What I've found is that sometimes the posts we assume are 'nothing' turn out being something after all, because they're absolutely unique to YOU. Make something people can get nowhere else, and you've succeeded in the face of what you consider to be a low period.

I'll echo @steevc above: the times when Steem is low are the best times to be writing, because what you make then is worth far, far more later on down the line. :)

Thanks, but I really didn't think it was anything special. With the amount of attention it got, others would disagree it seems. I will endeavour to be more positive about my posts!

If you are looking for something to do one day and can find enough photographs to support it, how about featuring the Pennine Way, or parts of it? I used to take M62 across the Pennines when I was delivering in the North. It is one of England's most beautiful drives.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I have been walking again this weekend and will be featuring more moors and barrenness soon.

I'm going to Scotland and the Highlands next weekend too so lots more to come.

Greatest post ever... Uninspired seems to do nothing to you. I like all your photos. Can't go wrong with an overcast heath.

You may feel uninspired, but you still came up with a cool post. I think it's best to try and keep the quality up to keep the followers interested even if it means a few less posts each week. Having some running themes helps. I don't plan my posts, but I generally have a few ideas noted down that I can use.

Stick with it through these 'hard times' and you will reap the benefits layer. I've said many times that steem has been much lower than this and what I made then is worth a lot more even now.

Thanks @steevc, I try to post once a day but sometimes the ideas bin dries up. I'll be leaving work in a week and heading up to Scotland for a highlands tour.

Ill take the laptop so I can make some notes for later. Should be a little more interesting.

So true. Great to post about all sorts of subjects :) I need to do that more! Thanks for the inspiration.

As a matter of fact, i found your post so refreshing. You may sound gloomy as I also feel regarding my write ups go unnoticed but your piece was still worth reading and make me even feel good about myself again. Thanks. More power to you. 😊

I think the STEEM price is getting everyone down a little. Thanks for looking and the appreciation. :)

Well, this is rich and full of content post :) Good looking photos (the one with the house is my favorite), and nice story.

Thanks! I do try even when there's little to write about.

I like this 3-in-1 post and find these graffiti pictures, most notably the one with the skull very cool. It reminds me of the logo of the new company of the creator of Metal Gear video games, Hideo Kojima.

And yeah, you cannot have incredible adventures every day unfortunately, but we would be tired of it and require some rest if it were the case...

Congratulations! Your high quality-travel content caught our attention and has earned you a partial upvote. We love your hard work and hope to encourage you to continue to publish strong travel-related content. Thank you for using #travelfeed

I hear you :) not everyday there is inspiration. But you managed good with this blog :) ...

I hope so, it was a case of stuffing all the bits into one post. I mentioned this grafetti place to @silviabeneforti some time ago. I hope she sees it.

I like it! Like at a pub where you don't have to give a dissertation just to have a chat over beer.

Good litle journey for us to share from our safe little computer chairs.

Excellent!

Nice pictures. I feel the same way sometimes. It helps that I have a couple of series going so that even if I don't have something outstanding to write about, I can at least do those. I think with the price being low and our accounts not being big enough to reap significant curation rewards there is more pressure to put out content every day. From the fiscal standpoint that is. I know a from the social side we all just want to make sure we keep our readers engaged etc.

Kwiksave is coming to an end soon, I will have to dredge something else from under the sawdust heaps!

:)

I think it's a great post - I love a few pictures and a little story (like having no water with you). But the deadpan delivery ("Should I be writing this?") did start to make me wonder whether you were being satirical 😎.

("Should I be writing this?")

I really did not think too much of of this article at all, just a mish-mash of all kinds of things I have been doing in the last few weeks.

A friend of mine who joined Steemit and has since slated it for 'the content is crap' maybe is having some kind of effect on me Im trying to shrug off.

Should everything be perfect and REALLY SERIOUS? I think not so I wrote this. I'll not get his $0.01 vote for this one.

But you have got my vote :)

I can see your taking this platform seriously, like me. I wish there were more of us doing the same.

Thank you. It takes all sorts. It'll work out.

I think it's about having fun and enjoying yourself. Some people (sometimes) want to write serious posts and sometimes not so much. I don't post every day, I have far too many other things to do. I go with the flow and as long as I'm posting two or three times a week, and enjoying what I'm reading, I'm happy with that. I enjoy your posts ... especially the foodie ones!

I meant from the aspect of powering up. I'll be doing another food one this weekend as I'm taking @bingbabe to an elabortate place for his birthday. Its expensive as hell but one of those places you visit just once. Using @tasteem of course!

Laughing! Enjoy! I look forward to the review.

I agree, the markets are boring right now! :(
Those are some damn nice pictures though... they came from a phone?? Or did you do some kind of filter or post-production on them? They look amazing!

Thanks, they are just iPhone pictures though. Phones have a lot of megapixels these days.

Such a cool variety of shots so interesting to see and read

Yeah Steem is having a rough time, and many seem to be backing off while it is down, but you see those dedicated to the platform still plodding along on here

I suspect lots going to go even lower but I hope not to much and then will climb again

"Gunge" has to be up there on the list of underutilised words :)

That graffiti is AMAZING! I love good graffiti. But a word of advice. Don't go hiking anywhere without food or water! If you or your daughter sprains an ankle in a remote spot you might have a long wait for help, and being in pain and without food or water in the wilderness isn't fun.

yaaaa Steem is down..it is sad.
Your post is EPIC though man!!
Makes me want to get off the computer and get out side!!!..probably a good idea!

Peace!

For someone who has nothing to say, I say you did pretty well here :) I like the post, and the pictures say it all .. say nothing more often hehe

your pictures are very rich, nice post sire

Sometimes the only thing i want in my life is to get a job for traveling around world..
Traveling is always adventurious and i am glad too see you doing this wonderful job..
Anyways your photography is amazing , really incredable photos you have capture the real nature beauty..

I kept thinking I would see a picture of a hobbit. Those pics reminded me of the Shire...

  • If you run into any Highland Cattle on your adventure, I would appreciate some pics. I want to get a few of these for our lil homestead...

I may be heading to Scotland in a couple of weeks so there could well be these cattle that you desire snaps of.
