In the right corner of the ground, there was a memorial stupa for master monk Seon Gak ( 684 - 817 AD ) who had rebuilt this temple for 8 years long.

The record of Master Monk Seun Gak was caved on the body of the monument.
What made me interesting was the bottom of the stupa and the capstone.

As other memorial stupa, the bottom was carved in the form of the tortoise. But the appearance of head was quite different from normal ones.

The head was as similar as that of dragons.
It feels like that they tried to show people some sacred atmosphere.
The sacred ball was in its mouth like a dragon.

The feet and the tail were well preserved
The style of the tail told this sculpture was carved during late Shilla and early Goryeo dynasty.
I’m not ready to compare and introduce the those tortoise sculpture of memorial stupas, but in near future I’d like to try.

The patterns on the body of the tortoise were very vivid as it made in recent times.
The patterns of the capstone were also so vivid.

I don't know why the old Korean dynasty seems to paint their memorial stupa in form of a dragon head with a tortoise body, maybe their is a signature or a significance to what it means really however it's a really peculiar and spectacular piece of wonder, wow, amazing shots really this is amazing take by you.

@slowwalker, The memorial stupa for master monk Seon Gak's rebuilt traditionally in Mu Wi Sa Temple.

The record of Master Monk Seun Gak was caved on the body of the monument.

That's great thing for respect him but unfortunately couldn't find. The turtle seemed very proud and I heard what's meaning sit dragons on turtle's head. After watched closer captures I can tell Those dynasty's had amazing architectural technology.

Amazing stupa with tortoise body and dragon head

It is an interesting combination of dragon and tortoise, especially from the side it is easy to recognize the dragon head. That is my favorite fictional animal. I have it on my to do list, but not decided how I will do it. Good that weather still preserved the carvings of the stone, amazing that there are so many years gone since the time when it was created. Beautiful stupa and thank you for close pictures of details.

Wow! very beautiful sculpture! Thank you, very interesting facts.

Are you from Korea?? I love the art their; also of China and Japan. The architecture has a strong but charming aura.

Thank you btw for your upvote. I appreciate it very much!
