In this posting, I’d like to show you the stone lantern.
It seems the biggest stone lantern in Korean Buddhist temple.

It seemed to be made in Goryeo dynasty.
This stone lantern was not so good balanced with the body and the head part like other Goryeo dynasty’s stone works.
It is a mystery why Goryeo dynasty’s stone lanterns were not so well balanced.

One characteristic of this lantern was the body was round shape.
I don’t know the reason why, but it was not easy to see the round shape body stone lantern.
In my opinion, it looked like not easy to make round shape than the angled edge shape.

@slowwalker, Wow....Both big stone lanterns adorable in front of Gakwhan-jeon hall. There has fascinating designs. That's amazing creativity of Goryeo dynasty. They carved round shape included whole lantern amazingly. Surrounding background area superior for eye visualization. Well explained and perfect photo clicks.

Great lantern. Particularly striking is the beauty of the rear view in the second photo.

Hello, it is a photograph incredible. Greetings.

Good! Re-steem!

That is really sizeable stone lantern, seeing it in front of Gakwhang-jeon Hall of Whaeom-sa Temple I am wondering if it was there from the beginning when it was built or was it placed lately, it is a pity that there is no people around it would be great to see when you have a figure you can approximately assess the size of it. As usually much attention is paid to the stone carving, beautiful creation :)

Wonderful post sir beautiful art

The stone lantern looks like it will last for centuries @slowwalker because of the craftsmanship that is done to it by the skillful tradesmen of the dynasty when it was made.

Interesting story. Thanks!

Hey there Mr. Walker! I've been in Thailand for a couple weeks now, Asia my favorite part of the world. Have you been to Thailand. If not you may want to take trip. Your money goes for miles, the food and weather is great, and there is no shortage of fellow travelers to meet and socialize with from all over the world. I'm now in Chiang Mai and just loven' life.

Really enjoy your posts too by the way. The stone "lantern" certainly does not float into the sky. Here in Thialand they light lanterns that like mini hot air balloons and they go way way up intot he night sky. This was during the festival of lights "Loy Krathong" just last week. Anyway, just stopping by to say hello. Hope you have been well. -Dan
