The Simple is The Best, In Tongdo-sa templesteemCreated with Sketch.

There is no Buddha statue in Daewung-jeon of Tongdo-sa, because it is said that there is the real body of Buddha. It was known as the teeth of Buddha. It is believed the great monk ‘Jijang’ had brought the sarira of teeth into Shilla dynasty when he had finishing study the teachings of Buddha in China.

In fact, there are several temples urging that they have the sarira of Buddha.
But Tongdo-sa temple is the most representative among those temples and was officially recognized.

In Catholic Church, Many Church have the body of the saint and the satire. In my opinion, both Buddhism and Catholic church seemed like to have the common religious background. There are so many common things in both religions.

Anyway there was a small building to protect the monument on which the record, how the sarira of Buddha was brought, was carved.

The door to the sarira pagoda was closed, so people could see the pagoda near the mountain god hall where was the highest place around the Sarira pagoda.

The garden near the mountain god hall was very well cared for and the pond was so nice for looking around.

The name of the sarira pagoda was ‘Diamond Steps’. In general, the shape was simple. The simpler, the more better in many cases. There were no particular ornaments or decorations on the sarira pagoda.

The teeth of Buddha have been preserved in the shape of the Bell.

@slowwalker,
We also got a tooth of Buddha! But it's not at such simple place! It's at
Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). It's not that much simple! But I think this temple (Daewung-jeon of Tongdo-sa) has a Teeth of Buddha as well! That's why this nice and great structure built to secure it. Wonderful journal and valuable for all visitors of Korea!

Cheers~

I'd like to look around Sri Dalada Maligawa near future

Lovely place.. Awesome photography

Excellent article. A very beautiful place in which I want to highlight the beauty of buildings and a pond. All the photos are magnificent, especially the photo of the pond and the last two photos with the bell.

Thank you

Beautiful photos and the temple is very well cared for
It is not equal to the other temples that it has published but it is still charming @slowwalker!
The simple is the best? hmm yes!
many times we get entangled in so many things, but we do not see that in simplicity we can find better things that can fill us with happiness, tranquility, love and more ..

Thank you for your insightful comment

A very simplistic temple, which is easier for me to follow with understanding. I am Catholic and you are exactly right. Most of the Saints are made with full body and their attire, or what they were wearing at the time.

Thank you for bringing these beautiful temples to my door. I love that I can learn so much about different religions around the world and their customs- this truly makes a better understanding between people.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Thank you so much

You are very welcome.

Simplicity is the best city to live in it just makes us feel peace from inside :)

Hey @slowwalker, thank you for this trip, this time it is not only the building that impresses me but the terrace, seems that it is done from stone, it was quite popular profession in past a stonemason who created such ornaments on stone walls and made the nice shaped railing. Nowadays, when we needed a stonemason his calendar booked for next 6 months and it is so expensive, but such a beauty :)

Yes, it is very expensive, so it seems we can not leave our relics to our descendants

The temple looks amazing and that surroundings look as beautiful as the temple. All in synchronisation.

There are buildings in the world that arouse special admiration and interest. Some because of the craftsmanship of the builders, others because of the legend that surrounds them, and there are those that do not fit into the rigid canons of beauty, but have some secret, elusive charm or originality.

I am very impressed.

Greetings
