The Some Scenery of Sin Reuk Sa Temple, Yeo Ju City, Korea

in travel •  6 years ago

Sin Reuk Sa temple was very unique in its structural formation.
It was composed of the various religious thought, Taoism and Confucianism.
In Choson dynasty, the influence from Confucianism was inevitable, because Confucianism was the idealogical basis in Choson dynasty.

So, the style of the monuments in the temple was deeply influenced by Confucianism.

The garden on the ground could be said to be influenced from Confucianism.
There was a juniper tree beside the main building of this temple, Geuk Lak Bo Jeon.

The Juniper tree was unexpected for me to see in the temple.
This tree was considered as the representative garden tree of Confucian study facilities.

After the funeral, some of clothes must be fired in the corner of Jijan Jeon Hall in Korea.
Firing the clothes is the ceremony for affording the clothes to the dead.
What I saw impressive was the Buddha statue near Jijang Jeon Hall.
This statue seemed to be made for the last ceremony for Buddhist funeral.

It seemed that statue was built in near past.
An expressionless face of Buddha was so impressive for me.
Its lack of expression seemed to tell there was no difference between living and dead.

There was no 4 Heaven Kings gate in this temple, but there were painted gates with 4 Heaven Kings instead.

It's covered by wooden gate around area. Buddha statue different kind than previous. Sometimes statue created for last ceremony for Buddhist funeral. The 4 Heaven Kings gate's painted and never looked before. It has fascinating style. Perfect captures with explain.

Sin Reuk Sa temple seems so amazing even when it is implied that Taoism and Confucianism contributed to the structural organisation, to me it's very sophisticated, and the angle you took these amazing photography is so exquisite, I applaud this. The statue picture In the hall is more than amazinhg.

@slowwalker,
That tree, it's pretty amazing! Yeah I think I have used the most suitable word there! It's pretty amazing to see that type of tree and with your description about the temple we could understand a lot about the religions and architectural design changes of the Korean history as well!

Cheers~

Resteemed :-)

Great post

With this post, we will know how beautiful this temple is, not only by Buddhism but also Taoism and Confucianism. A form of local wisdom that is able to adapt and acculturate culture between Indian and Chinese cultures. this is what certainly makes the preservation of this temple site well maintained. The natural beauty combined with this architecture makes the photo you present as an impressive treat
thank you @slowwalker
thank you Steemit
Warm regard from Indonesia

@slowwalker everything in the construction of these Temples seems so intricate, the Stones, the Roofing, the Painting, even the placement of directions.........all so fascinating..........

Sometimes, When I go to a temple, I feel comfortable.

Sin Reuk Sa Temple is very much unknown by people, even those living right in Korea. The stone pagodas are simply beautiful as is the stone bell. How nice to be surrounded by the beauty of nature.

I am intrigued by the expressionless Buddha and did not know what it meant, so thank you for clearing that up.

Do you think the 4 Heaven Kings that was painted was intended that way or was it a replacement? Thank you for taking the time to show these historical temples.
