Tragic River Border Line in ImJin river with North Korea.

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Checking some historical places along the border line with North Korea was the main purpose of this business trip.
It was an ImJin river where we had stepped by during the business trip.
The border line was defended by Marine Corp of South Korea

Likewise other country, Marine Corp is an elite troop in Korea.

I’d like to take the photos of the facilities, but it was banned for the security reasons.
So I could take some pics of the scenery around the border line.

Korea has been divided in 2 nations as you know, South and North as a result of Korean War.
War ended without any results. The most serious tragedy was the families were seperated.
More than 10 million people lost contact with their family.

DMZ is the Demilitarized Zone which is cruelest border line of MDL(Military Demarcation Line) 156miles .
This DMZ is exist not only in land but also on the river.

In this business trip, I’d like to see the river border line my own eyes.
I had seen it long time ago, at that time it gave me special impression,
In one month I will retire on my job, then there would be no more chance to enter into this area.

Through complicated procedure, We could arrived at the riverside of ImJin river finally where was not only the DMZ but also MDL of Korean Peninsula.

ImJin river is the place where sea and river meat.
So Sometimes the water flowing direction is changing according to the ebb and flow of the tide.

Before the Korean War, the ImJin river was an affluent fishing grounds.
Now any fisherman could not enter into the river for fishing.

On the river I could see the ices were floating along the tides of water.
The floating ices reminded me of the fate of separated family by the War.

Relatives of this area had lived in both riversides for a long time, but no one could not visit their relatives anymore.
Who draw this invisible but the most strong unbreakable line on the river ?

I took the several pics of the area.
You can see the barbered fences on the river side to protect the North Korean Army’s infiltration to the South.

That kinds of facilities to protect Northern Army’s infiltration made me very nervous.

Except that tension, the scenery was awesome.

The riverside and the rocks were beautiful.

There was an Island on the river, but no body have entered into the that small island after Korean War.

I was told that 2-3 family had lived in the island before the Korean War.

As far as I heard, the Owner of that island is still waiting for visiting his island and taking care of his family’s grave yard.

Every place has its history. But I felt tragic atmosphere here.

ImJin river was a river of tragedy.

This is really interesting, thanks a ton for sharing. I've always been very curious about both north and south korea, so the more info the better. It's horrible what is going on in North Korea, but at the same time, it is very hard to find good information about it, since the country is so closed off.
Again, thanks for sharing man!

Nice One

s1.PNG

this is a bit scary,, i never imagined myself neing there.
you must have a lot of courage to take this pictures in this specific place.
Keep safe, your life is more important than anything else. you dont know how this guys think.
Cheers

imagine, if Truman had let MacArthur have the nukes he wanted in 1950, as Russia hadn't tested their A bomb yet, the whole cold war could have been ended by 1951, where could the world have been now if all the money spent on nukes and ballistic missiles had been spent on exploration and development? Jupiter or beyond perhaps, instead, were in an armistice with NK and Chicom and could be attacked at any moment, and all we get is media sabre rattling, best result for current situation is China deals with NK, no doubt what Trump and Chicom president discussed while playing golf in Florida last week

As always, its always the people who suffered a lot on this war thing that were influence by large weapon industry. There was a war in Marawi (city next from where I live) that just ended Last November 2017. Now there are intelligence report that the same group of bandits will also attack our city. I just don't understand what are they fighting for. Why need to waste people's lives for that reason?

My father is Korean, but I grew up in Russia. Since my childhood, my frends always asked me: « your father from North Korea or South Korea? ». Once I asked him and he told me that this is one nation, and the division of the country was due to political views. The author I agree with you! Thank you!

It's interesting, thanks for sharing. If you like you can look at my posts.

Wonderful scenery of ImJin river in Korea. Outstanding photography and travelling place. Follow and upvoted you. Thanks a lot for sharing such a good one.

What a nice way to spend some free time away from work (business trip). Imjin river is one of the largest rivers in Korea and it becomes a violent torrent in the summer months.

Very rare pics amazing!. Marine Corp of South Korea more then border line , it's looking like a beautiful Island . River border line is looking very natural, like silently peaceful place on earth. Appreciate @slowwalker effort to took these real pics, which are very rare.

It certainly is an area of tragedy. Families torn apart. Lives torn and unable to heal. Perhaps in the future some enlightened person can fix the problem of the past.

Thanks For Sharing...
Good pos for education.

This was a fascinating story about North Korean history, glad you took the time from business trip to do this ,, thanks

Hallo Slowwalker, it is impressive and so spooky to see this pictures, you are showing us pictures that are not reachable for us. I would be afraid to be so close to the border, I felt my goose bumps while looking at the pics. I hope the owner can go back to the island one day and look after the grave yard :( Thanks for your post! Wish you a nice day and Merry Christmas! Greetings @lenatramper

thank you lenatramper

Photos are like an old Korean painting.
I hope the sorrow of history will flow away along the ImJin river...!

Is that island property of North Korea or South?

Fascinating pictures!

Wor did only bad things to the humanity! It's so bad that wor separated family members: parents from their children, brothers from brothers, relatives from relatives. It took away the most precious persons and things from people's life. I feel pity for that fellow who is not allowed to go to the ireland to take care of his relatives graviyard honnoring their memory. We don't want wor anymore. Let there be peace on earth!
Thank you for this article and for the pictures.

Fascinating, Thank you!

Very amazing @slowwalker thank's for sharing

I absolutely love how deep your heart is. How you view your world as reflection. It truly is beautiful, I can only imagine the feels experiencing the land as I am an empath. I felt like I was there reading this post. Thank you for taking me on a walk through history.

All the tragedies are man made. Right from the genesis of human being, we have hundreds of thousands of war fought willingly, resulted in nothing than the tragedies and borders like this one. These borders made differences between people once they were together and abstain people to people contact physically. Therefore we are obliged to take help of online media as a contact.

It reminds me that I had military service nearby DMZ in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do as an army. I was able to see some north Korean soldier who were walking around their guard post.

I wish we won't have the tragedy like that the families were seperated, again.

Indeed this is a river of tragedy and distance. Think you for sharing this valuable, moving story.

Undependingly where we live all of us are living in big lies such as religion democracy and so on ... they have their own tragedy ...

Wow... great photography... The photos you've taken exude an aura of great sadness and loneliness... and it saddens me a bit that North Korea is and will probably remain a mystery to a lot of people.

Very interesting article! Thanks for sharing. Keep posting. :-)

Have you ever heard about river Tumangan, where the border between North Korea and two other countries @slowwalker? Sometimes people from North Korea are trying to cross the border illigally to flee the country. This also tragedic place. Thanks for this post!

Nature stimulates my soul!!

Hi slowwalker I was sad to hear of this, why can't there be unity instead of division, to not be able to cross over and see family and see these beautiful sites, its depressing, on a lighter note the pictures are beautiful and I'm glad you got to take them, I hope you had a beautiful holiday and happy new year😊😊

Beautiful photographry. The political situation is sad, but war and politics seldom seen to yield positive outcomes.

I have heard that the war is not technically over, but that there is an ongoing armistice. Is that true?

Interesting post.

Oh wow, this is so surrealistic! Thanks for sharing!

I learned a lot from you @slowwalker about Korea! Your thoughts are always interesting!
