Upon finalising my four year long degree in the UK, I felt that I needed some "me" time and get away from the caotic, noisy city life where people move to fast and stop appreciating the simplest things, and go somewhere peaceful, quiet and where i feel needed. So in September I left for Tanzania for 5 weeks. Solo.
Through family contacts I organised a volunteer programme for 3 weeks just north ouside the Serengeti. One week prior to commencing the volunteering programme I went to Zanzibar, and one week post volunteering spontaneouly organised a hike up the 5th highest mountain in Africa - mount meru.
I have travelled throughout East Africa from a very young age, visiting my father in Moçambique and Ethiopia, and experiencing as a family the adventures of Kenya, Malawi, South Africa and Madagascar. However travelling to Tanzania was different. It was a period of time where I constantly felt challenged and had to believe in myself. Man up and go out there!
Now, being back home and having put my rocksack away and hiking boots in the cupboard, I look through my pictures and videos and feel different. Travelling is an investment in yourself that you should always prioritize. Be shelfish and do you! Nothing else matters or is as important as yourself.
Here are some pictures of Zanzibar, which equal to: awesome beaches / amazing people / outstanding food / spices / incredible sunsets / beautiful culture and street art.
My next post will take you through my 3 weeks at Singita Grumeti, so stay tunned for some incredible wildlife and sustainability updates!
