Olt River has 615 km (382 mi) long and is the longest river flowing exclusively through Romania. The river was known as Alutus or Aluta in Roman antiquity.
The source of Olt River is in the eastern Transylvania (Hasmas Mountains) at an elevation 1800 m and flows south through the southern Carpathian Mountains to enter the Danube River near Turnu Magurele.
Olt County and the historical province of Oltenia are named after the river.
