A brief look at the Mojave Desert

I recently went to LA for a job. On my way there I stopped in the Mojave desert to camp for a night. Took a few decent pictures that I figured I would share.

The Mojave Desert covers over 22,000 square miles. I was in the Southeastern California area, while I was there I was lucky to experience one of the rare thunderstorms that pass through the area in summer leaving the rainbow that can be seen in the picture.

One of the coolest things in the Mojave are the Joshua Trees, also known as the Yucca Palm. They definitely look more Yucca like up close but slowly transition into a very soft wood away from the Yucca part. Joshua Trees are unique to this region of America and can live up to 1000 years, however usually live 150-200 years in the wild.

These massive barrel cactus can also be found in the Mojave. The lighter in the picture is a full sized bic.

The Mojave provides interesting landscapes due to the Joshua Tree that look like nowhere else on earth. I really enjoyed my time there and hope to return again someday.
