As promised, here is the story of the legend of Peggy as told through Ivan Fraser, author of 'Peggy of the Cove'. He has opened up his home as a museum to traveller's who want to know the history of Peggy's Cove. You can visit his webpage here.
More recently, there was a plane crash on September 2nd, 1998. Swissair 111 crashed into the ocean close to Peggy's Cove shortly after taking off from the Halifax airport claiming the lives of 229 people. A memorial was created at Peggy's Cove to commemorate the victims with their names etched in stone. Thomas C. Juby wrote a book on the possible cause of this crash called 'Twice As Far: The Swissair 111 Crash Investigation'. It was published on April 28th, 2017 and you may be interested in reading his synopsis here. I found it quite shocking.
When we first visited Peggy's Cove in July of 2014 it was a rather stormy day so the haunting nature of this place was definitely felt!

A stroll through Peggy's Cove Village will take you through little shops, fishing huts, docks, and beautiful views of the cove. You can stop for a coffee or a chowder and, if you are so inclined, you can also go hiking in Peggy's Cove Preservation area which spans a thousand acres.
