A little trouble in Amsterdam

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Was my last day in Amsterdam today but I wasn't sure I was going to make it home due to insane storm they had. I've personally never experienced such constantly high winds.

The port authority had a challenge on their hands. This ship had been unloaded over the past few days and was anchored outside the office. The wind was against its starboard side and the ship was blown towards the shore. It was dragging its anchor.

A tug was sent in to attempt to stop its progress.

Unfortunately the little tug wasn't big enough so they sent in the big boys.

Unfortunately that didn't do much to stop the ship's progress.

Thankfully the wind died down soon after as I think there would have been trouble if it continued for another hour.

Unfortunately a number of people lost their lives elsewhere in the area today.

That's some scary weather. It's been pretty windy here, but not that bad. Hope your trip home is okay

Made it back safely, was a surprisingly smooth flight. A little soggy this end though and wasn't so delighted with the bunch of fence panels we lost in the storm.

I need to do some fence repairs too. Not had a chance to survey the full damage yet.

Having a new stretch of 6 panels installed with concrete posts and gravel boards. They'll hopefully last a good long while! The other panels are down to the neighbours so I hope they get them sorted soon.

It's a good time to be into fencing. One company had a waiting list of 3 weeks for quotes and 8 weeks for installation!
