A merry Tuesday to us all! Today I'm going to take you to a beautiful town called Taormina on the island of Sicily.

Italy, and more specifically the island of Sicily, is the closest country to Malta, where I lived for 3 years. One day I decided to take the ferry over and visit the Sicily, though people told me it was "just like Malta." Although there are a lot of similarities to Malta, both geographically and culturally, there are differences too. For one thing, Sicily is just much bigger, and it was nice to get in a bus and be able to drive in one direction for a long time--funny the things you get nostalgic for... There was also a lot more green and hills, and since the Greeks colonized the island, you can see their influence in the architecture as well.

Here's a selfie from the bus right after disembarking the ferry. I wasn't feeling very well that day, but I'm so glad I took the trip anyway!

Today I'm going to share with you the first part of that trip, which was a stop in the lovely little town of Taormina. Let the pictures speak for themselves. :)

Some first impressions of Italy--I had never been there before, but this was kind of what I imagined it would be like. :)

The main attraction of Taormina is the ancient Greek theater. Fun fact: this location was actually used in Woody Allen's movie, Mighty Aphrodite. A chorus stands inside and recites in unison, including one line that goes something like, "Your children grow up and move away, sometimes to ridiculous places like Cincinnati..." XD

Here's me inside one of the alcoves in the theater wall.

Here's looking down from inside the theater to the bay. Isn't it beautiful?

Outside the theater I found this ginormous pot. And I'm seriously starting to miss summer now.

After the theater I spent some time wandering around Taormina. Walk with me?

These looked like crosses scratched into a wall. I wondered if they might be some kind of ancient Christian graffiti?

I didn't see Juliet, though.

Well I hope you enjoyed this little excursion. I know I did! Tune in to Travel Tuesdays next week for a climb up Mt. Etna!
