What should I definitely visit in Portugal?

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

So, as mentioned a few times in my blog posts already, Arianna and I will be in Portugal on Tuesday and will stay for a week.

There are some places and towns we surely want to visit such as Sintra or the Bengil Caves in the south.
Although, I'd like to receive some suggestions from locals and people that have been to Portugal.

Which are the best places and beaches to visit?

Take into consideration that we are staying the first 2 days in Lisbon, then we are staying in Lagos for 4 days (we figured we'd find some cool beaches down there) and then back to Lisbon for our last day.

Also, we are italian, we love to eat good food. I can't recall who suggested to try the chocolate cake at "Landeau Chocolate" in Lisbon. Any other suggestions?

Oh, by the way, I will take lots of pictures and document the whole trip, so make sure you're following me to be part of our journey!

Love ya All,
@stevelou

Try to go to Aveiro, really nice town by the sea with very beautiful houses and boats. You'll be surprised.

Woah, just google Aveiro real quick and this comes up as first image. Crazy boats! Thanks for your suggestion my friend, will definitely keep it in mind.

Yeah, it is something people usually miss out and it is very nice. Don't expect a full-on venice experience. There are just a couple of canals , but still, very nice town. And food is great.

And there's a very nice beach nearby too.

Don't leave Portugal without trying the Pasteis de Nata https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastel_de_nata
And in Aveiro, try the Ovos Moles.
In fact in every town they usually have something of a local specialty so it is worth asking what they recommend and what is best. People are very nice and helping, and they will be happy recommending you good stuff that brings a smile to you .

Do they still bbq fresh sardine catches on the beaches? I haven't been back for a long time.

I hope so, definitely wanna try those!

@stevelou This was a long time ago but so Portuguese - gusting N Atlantic breezes, big waves, clean sands and a simple charcoal grill ready for the fishermen carrying their plastic bags of sardines fresh from the catch....and lots of red wine, of course (the Fado was not for me, alas). Have a stunning time. Try the bacalhao.

Thanks buddy, really appreciated.😊

Those were sardinhas asadas. You can find them in many restaurants, but the best are by the sea and cheap. Don't bother to order them in a classy place. The crappier, usually the better.

Haha - exactly. Good to hear it's still the same;

Good to hear! I love to taste different local specialities!
Thanks for your awesome advice @perennial99, much appreciated.

In portogallo si mangia benissimo!!
Da provare:

  • a Lisbona tra le specialità sicuramente il pesce e in particolare il bacalau, lo cucinano in diversi modi , tutti buonissimi! Ottimo a "la casa do bacalau" zona acquario.

  • quartiere Alfareria
  • elevador de Santa Justa
  • girovagare senza meta nelle stradine del centro!

Cavolo grazie stella, troppo gentile! Screenshot immediato a queste info da tenere a portata di mano. Grazie ancora :)

okay i will write this country's name in future visit book :D
