As I explore the beautiful town that is Kotor, I love all the beautiful architecture that comes with it, especially in Old Town.
The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon or rather the Croatian name Katedrala Svetog Tripuna is one of the only two Roman Catholic cathedrals in Montenegro. The cathedral was built in honor of Saint Tryphon, protector of the city and it stands on the grounds of a church that was built a few hundred years prior. Saint Tryphon was consecrated on the 19th of June, 1166.
The cathedral was severely damaged a couple times through the years. First, during the 1667 Dubrovnik earthquake. Reconstruction of the church began after the quake but unfortunately, there wasn't enough funds to finish it. Then, the cathedral was seriously damaged again by the earthquake that hit Montenegro in 1979. Restoration was still taking place just a few years ago.
The cathedral is an amazing example of Romanesque architecture and one of Kotor's most gorgeous and notable buildings.
