The Trevi Fountain's name comes from the Latin word trivium meaning "an intersection of three streets." The fountain is one of Rome's most popular landmarks as it receives up to 10 million visitors annually. The Trevi fountain has appeared in multiple well-known movies including La Dolce Vita, Roman Holiday, and The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

The fountain we see today was designed by Nicola Salvi in 1732. With only half the project done when Savli died in 1751, Guiseppe Pannini took over the project. Four new sculptors were hired. Pietro Bracci who did Oceanus (the sculpture in the center), Filippo della Valle, Andrea Bergondi and Giovanni Grossi we hired to complete the fountain's decorations. Pannini finished the fountain in 1762. It opened on May 22nd, 1762.

The Trevi Fountain is one of my favorite landmarks throughout Italy. I've seen it twice in my life and I am forever grateful. I have never tossed a coin in the fountain and made a wish but if I ever find myself in Rome again, that is going to be my main priority.
