Is a staycation still a staycation if you traveled a few hours?
The mountains called and I had to go. Can you blame me?
The first stop was at Holy Cross Abbey Winery. I have a odd relationship with church (I joke that someday I’m going to get struck by lightening) but I really enjoy the history and the stained glass. I often visit cathedrals and graveyards when I travel because I think they are cool. The Winery is attached to a once active abbey that now serves as a historical site. They make some amazing wines- I especially loved the wine made from grapes submitted across the community! Apparently because a lot of their wines are made from local fruits, they will taste different from year to year.
The next stop was Royal Gorge. They had a zip line and a sky coaster available if you are looking for thrills, but walking across the bridge was enough of a rush for me.
The rest of the trip was spent checking out local breweries and wineries in nearby Salida Co. This tap house is all digital- no need to rely on a bartender to pour drinks! An introverts dream!
I really liked the glass art installation at Vino Winery, which is intended to represent the nearby Arkansas river. Their mead made from local honey was especially good as well.
