Next Stop: Bali! 🌴🌊 I'll Be Witnessing The WSL™️ Bali Pro Surf Competition - Yeeeeew!!

Dreams come true. Without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. - John Updike

Well go figure, John, I had this dream to visit one of the big WSL™️ (World Surf League) events one day!

Yesterday I booked my trip to Bali where I'll be witnessing the PROs fighting for the title of the Bali Pro Surf Competition 2018. Now it's not only a dream anymore.

It's going to be real, and I'll be right in the middle!

©️WSL / Scott Hammond: The pool of the Komune Resort and Beach Club will be the best spot to take in all the action from the competition - is it me? :-)

Make your dreams come true!

Yesterday I accidentally stumbled upon a video from the WSL™️ published on Facebook. It led me to the website WSL™️ Title Race where the current top four world leading surfers are presented during their fight for this season's title.

I had to watch the video about these four heroes a couple of times. To me the way they surf is pure art.

It seems that there is a new, younger surf generation taking over. The more estalished PROs Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning and and Joel Parkinson are not competing for a top ranking anymore. They're out of the picture.

These four are the future of surfing!

The best four in the world on their Title Race

Guess what happens next!

One day I will travel to one of these. - Marly

You need to speak your dreams out loud in order to make them come true!

My yesterday evening's Facebook statement

A couple of minutes after sharing the video and thinking about one of my lifetime dreams again, I wondered: 'Why not now?'

Then I started to do some research about the WSL™️ schedule 2018.

The list started with Quicksilver Pro in Australia, Oi Rio Pro Brazil, Bali Pro in Indonesia,... Wait! Bali?!

It was the perfect match! Bali has been on my radar for a while; all my surfing friends have been there already and are completely enthused about this place. Besides the surf opportunities it seems to be an incredibly beautiful destination with lots of amazing spots to visit and memorize. Also the food has to be outstanding.

To make it short: Bali is made for me.

Now everybody of you guys who has been to Bali and wants to share some travel experiences and tips with me, is kindly invited to do this.

Steemit's Bali expert no. 1 @mammasitta may be the very first person to get in contact with. Honey, we need to chat!! :-)

Now the idea was to be the closest possible to the surf competition, enabling me to witness the whole event. Yet, it seems that the venue itself - the Keramas Beach Resort and Club - is completely blocked for the competitors and their staff. At least online you can't book a room during the relevant time period. I sent them an email, so let's see if there's a chance to get in anyways.

I can see me right here! It would be beyond awesome to relax in this pool watching the PROs surfing the competition :-)

©️WSL / Scott Hammond - Brent Dorrington winning the Komune Bali Pro Competition 2017: "Wow! What a day! This is one contest I've always wanted to win, it's at one of my favorite waves."

I guess it'll be hard to enter the venue and actually stay there during the competition.

But who knows, maybe I'm lucky and they have a room for me.

To not leave that lifetime dream to chance, I've already booked an alternative accomodation very close to the venue. Like that I'll be there no matter what.

It's not an appropriate description for such a paradisiac place, but this would be my "plan B". Well it's rather an A - being the venue the A+ - I think :-)

This is how I'd always imagine Bali - green and idyllic

Take me there and I'll get lost - these sun loungers look incredibly comfortable

Finally I can read all the books I've never read! :-)

Besides the WSL™️ action, this is definitely going to be a rather relaxed vacation than anything else.

2017 has been quite hectic and fast-paced. It's time to slow down a bit.

The best thing about booking vacation early is that you have months of pleasant anticipation! Now I can contact all my surfing friends and invite them to join, ask the ones that have been to Bali about their tips and recommendations, study the travel guides and daydream about meeting my surf idols.

There are still more than 6 months to go, but I can already feel it! That's going one of the trips of my life.

Besides surfing, traveling is definitely my life's elixir.

For the rest of the weekend I'll be surfing on these endorphins of anticipation :-)

Hope you're enjoying yours in a similar way.

Best, Marly -

I just love the fact that there are 195 countries in the world and every single one has something different to offer. Travelling will always be splendid and never stale and uneventful because of all the different cultures, foods, monuments and activities we still have yet to discover. That is what I love so much about travelling.

Really enjoyed reading your post Marly, I'm happy to see that we share the same passion for travel! Defnitely will upvote this post :D

Indeed! I'll be there in the front row :-)
Following you now.

Surfs up! Being in a endless pool watching the surf comp with a beer looks like a good day lol

Haha, I couldn't have said it any better :-)

Q wapada las fotos :-)

Verdad? Podría ir hoy :-)

Wow! Way to go! I love examples of just saying, "screw it, I'm doing it" when there's no rational reason not to. I hope you have an amazing time and tell us all about it!

There was definitely no rational argument preventing me from doing it :-)
This is going to be a 15-days-trip, so I guess I'll have lots of material to share with the steemit community then! Enjoy your weekend, Luke :-)

Jonas

Auf jeden Fall! :-)

Yeah yeah yeah and I’m not there :(

Just heard Beautiful Brazilian Jean Da Silva died 😭😭😭

Enjoy your ride! We will chat soon. When will you be there?

That video gives me the greeps! Wohoooo. Can't wait.

Jean da Silva?! OMG - I hadn't heart about that yet! Suicide...?! He was only 32 years old... That's too sad :-(

Hey ! May/June might be good for me to go as well because I have to be back there at some point. We keep in touch and trust me, I will tell you lots of things. Hope you booked more than one week. There is so much to see.
Yes! So so sad! I saw him at some surf fest a while back. Always a big smile in his face but some of us know the “dark days” as well and he couldn’t get out of the “hole”. I am still in shock. The movie is awesome! This is only the trailer.

We booked 15 nights :-)
Let's keep in touch!!

Sometimes people don't reveal how they really feal inside... Too sad that nobody close to him was able to help.

Wow that’ll be such a cool trip. I’ve been to Bali many times but not for 3 years and the place grows and changes so quickly. Also Julian Wilson is from my home town Coolum Beach, I have known him since he was a young boy and watched his career grow.

Oh how cool is this? I will cross my fingers for Julian, he's definitely my favourite one of these four :-)
Which part of the island or specific place / spot would you recommend me to visit?

Julian is surfing well at the moment but he and his lovely wife Ashley are expecting their first baby in 4-5 months. He has had a great rivalry with the Brazilian Gabe Medina and of course JJ Florence is really on fire.
As for places to stay and go. Bali looks small but it can take a while to get around and the traffic is chaos., All I can say is avoid Kuta , Legian and since Komune is located over on the East Coast I really like Sanur.
The Steemians that live in Bali will point you into some local secrets. @samstonehill lives not too far from there and @betterthanhome just spend time in traveling in Bali.

You are well informed about the surfer scene! :-)
Thanks for linking the other Bali experts, and I just put Sanur on my list.
Have a great Sundy, Stephen!

Lucky you!

You need big things like this to look forward to in life, it's going to be awesome for sure!

Yes, we need these anchors that fill our lives with constant joy of anticipation :-)
I guess you're right, it's going to be fantastic!

Really enjoyed your passion for the surfing. Thanks a lot for sharing.

very beautiful pictures - really has something paradisiacal

Have a great time. It's time to relax and enjoy! Lol

Don't feel hesitate ..life is too short.
take it easy...and continue your day..

love to read your post...

@RESTEEM###

cant wait getting out of winter cold

Good to know. What I getting as a treat??? :D

God, I love you. I mean, this last quote: " Life is short. Don't dream... live!" Fu** it totally got me. I was so consumed in work lately, that I have forgotten how to be happy, how to live - how to take the most from life even without having money - it's all doable - but it all depends on you. Sure, it would be easier if I wasn't unlucky, I had a stable job, wife didn't leave me and all this sh** didn't come at me at once, but there is no point in complaining and closing yourself from the real "living", just so you can save a few bucks more. Of course great follow-up on Bali, but I couldn't care less about it now. Thank you for opening my eyes with this nice photo on the beach and amazing quote.

Enjoy it!!!!! Upvoted and resteem! Bali Rocks

Nice place

I can't wait to visit. Tomorrow I will post my trip to Thailand... Amazing!

Good post

I'm happy for you, it's good that you can fulfill a dream and in that way live an unforgettable experience seeing your idols in action. OMG! I want to read your posts about that dream come true.

See dreams do come true. Remember, "our focus becomes our reality." Beautiful place too! Enjoy the competition, sun, sand and surf!

Excellent. Looks like you've made for Bali :)

Maybe they've booked the whole resort to sell official packages only. It happens with major events.

I envy you in a good way. Go get your dreams!

For a moment there I thought that volcano is gonna erupt Marly!!!! then i saw the date lolsss
@samstonehill too is an expert about Bali
i've totally blocked my mind of envy🤣

"Now everybody of you guys who has been to Bali and wants to share some travel experiences and tips with me, is kindly invited to do this."

Don't I wish! No, I'm afraid that I'll be waiting to hear your trip reports to learn about Bali... ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

wow thats amazing news!! I´m really happy for you. Great you finally get to see my surfspots where I learned to surf...sometimes the hard way!! 😁

It´s in Keramas right in front of the Hotel you mentioned. It is one of the most powerful right handers I´ve seen. Can get really big there. Unfortunately we won't be there as we will be in Canada. 😭

you have to tell us if you like Bali or not.

Hey @surfermarly, im in Bali now! Dont worry there are plenty of homestays and beautiful accommodation around the area if everywhere else is booked.

Also i think you will enjoy the night surfing at kerama's too, which they will probably hold for freesurfing while the comp is on - be sure to check it out!

Hopefully see you there myself next year :)

p.s - take the time to learn a bit of simple bahasa and it could open a lot of doors with the locals, they really appreciate it!!

Trip to Bali will be awesome!! Nothing like seeing the pro's in live action!
