Ain't Life Grand?

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

I few years back, a couple friends and I took a long trip out west. While in a Arizona, we made quick detour to that big old ditch made by the Colorado River. You may have heard it referred to as the Grand Canyon. It is quite a site to behold. The canyon is so large that it creates its own weather and has an entire city on the canyon floor that you cannot see from above. (See Havasupai Reservation)

We played real close to the edge. Too close, maybe.

Itty bitty fellas..

After we left the Grand Canyon, we headed to Yosemite in Northern California. Along the way, we made some friends.

We stopped at a Mono Lake which one of the most interesting lakes I've ever visited. Mono lake is the oldest lake in North America.

Mono Lake is naturally hypersaline and alkaline. It is a terminal lake, meaning it has no outlet. Mono Lake, two and half times as salty and 80 times as alkaline as the ocean, remains an "extreme environment" with a thriving community of all kinds of weird microscopophiles and insects.

The geology of Mono Lake is studied by scientists searching for clues about life on other planets, such as Mars. Mono Lake has become known for its unusual limestone towers. The rapid precipitation of minerals entombs microorganisms within the towers. Real talk: It felt like we were exploring another planet.

Here I'm feeding Reverend Jon these deadly creatures that live in the foam on the lake's banks.

Whats the most beautiful place you've ever been?

Hey, nice post.
I enjoyed a challenge and decided to start one myself. See the picture in my post, guess the location, and win 0.1 SBD every week. Where Is This Challenge

I like this idea. I guessed on a few.

Nice post @sweetscience

Such rugged and amazing scenery, I would have quite happily gone and sat in that spot on the edge, but only if my wife wasnt around she would freak big time if she saw me do that LOL

Awesome pics!

Love the vibe of your work! How you play with the images, use them. Not just display the. Very cool. Looking forward to more :)

So you actually went into the water?? That would be amazing!! Great pictures! :)

Noooooo!i just scraped some foam up and held it to Jon's face.

So cool places you go! Uv resteem

How did I miss that lake... :( The most beautiful place I have recently been is the Wave in Arizona :) I say recently because places are different and I cannot compare mountains to desserts or seaside :)

Love the use of color shift on the photos. Somehow I've been to AZ and Vegas several times and never there.

Thanks for sharing your recent adventure! Maaan Grand Canyon is massive, you too looking like ants there hehe :P Keep up!

Awesome pictures 👏🏻
