One of the reasons they are dying out, is that they rely on lichen which is usually found on rotting or dying trees. These are now harvested by humans putting a lot of stress on one of their primary sources of food.

In the Qinling mountains, pollution isn't as big a problem as say somewhere like Beijing. Cultural and Traditional values have to be changed to give them a chance of survival. The people themselves don't respect them enough!
