|Portal to the Puget| Episode 2: "Pritchard Park" - Bainbridge Island, Washington

Hello, and welcome back to |Portal to the Puget|! In today's episode, we will be visiting the beautiful Pritchard Park.

From Seattle, the fastest way to get to Pritchard Park is by the Bainbridge Island ferry. Once across the ferry, Pritchard Park is a 10 minute drive to the southern party of Bainbridge Island. For today's trip, I would recommend travelling in a car, or via bicycles, although if you are feeling up for a hike it's a about a 1 hour walk from the ferry.

Pritchard park was originally a creosote procressing plant from 1904-1988. In 1988 the plant was registered by the citizens of Bainbridge Island as an EPA superfund site, and ever since it has been a beautiful park. With soft sandy beaches and a view of Eagle Harbor, this is an excellent beach to take your dog (It's a leash-off park) or just relax on the sunny shores. A unique quirk of the park is the view of the Bainbridge ferry departing and arriving, wave to the ferry!

(Don't worry, tsunamis are historically non existent on Bainbridge Island)

On the north side of the park, there is a memorial to the deportation of Japanese Americans by order of Dwight D. Eisenhower in World War 2. The memorial is currently under renovations, but you can expect a full episode dedicated solely to the memorial once construction is complete.
