Because you came to Kokubunji, you have to go home looking at this gates. This gates called "Roumon" is the gate of the second floor at the entrance of Shrines.

引き続き、薬師如来を安置する本堂をはじめとした堂塔伽藍がそろい、八日堂のお薬師さんの名で近在の信仰を集めている国分寺のぶらり散歩をお届けします（前回の記事はこちら)。

2. Walking

国分寺に来たからにはこの楼門を拝んで帰らなければなりません。

「国分寺楼門」。

建物は間口三間（約6.2メートル）奥行二間（約3.7メートル）の楼門造り、板金葺で、江戸時代の建築様式をよくとどめております。この門は、米津出羽守田盛（通称内蔵助）の元菩提寺として建立された米津寺の楼門を明治二十八年に移築したものです。国分寺境内の諸建築物とともに、国分寺の変遷を知るうえで重要な建物となっています。

国分寺楼門の門前には「万葉植物園」がございます。

この植物園は、万葉集に詠まれている植物を集め、往時をしのぶよすがにとの意図で国分寺前住職星野亮勝氏により設置された植物園です。

園内には昭和25年から現在まで、当地で栽植可能なすべての万葉植物を独力で採集し、丹精して育て、植物ごとに例歌を記した説明板があります。国分寺が栄えた時代に編さんされた「万葉集」の歌の題材となった植物が、現在約160種あります。

「冬の来て 山もあらはに 木の葉降り 残る松さえ 峰に寂し」

園内には「太閤千代しだれ」が咲き誇ります。

太閤秀吉の「醍醐の花見」で有名な京都・醍醐寺に現存する枝垂桜を組織培養し、苗を成長させたものだそう。醍醐の花見は諸大名からその配下の女房女中衆約1300人を召し従えた盛大な催しだったとされます。

国府・国分寺の歴史と文化の散歩道を楽しんでいます。

ここが昔国分寺があった「武蔵国分寺跡」です。

本史跡は、かつて武蔵国に置かれた国分寺および国分尼寺の跡地となります。

武蔵国では湧水が豊かな国分寺崖線を背にして、都と国府を結ぶ駅路（東山道武蔵路）の東側に僧寺、西側に尼寺を配しました。武蔵国は多摩郡をはじめとする21郡からなり、国分寺の造営にあたっては武蔵国内の人々の力が総結集されましたが、完成した年代は土器や瓦、漆紙文書等の出土資料から天平宝字年間（757～765年）頃と考えられます。

僧寺は中枢部、伽藍地、寺院地の三重に区画される構造で、現在地は中枢部に位置します。中枢部は北から順に、経典などを講読する講堂、本尊を安置していた金堂、入口にあたる中門が主軸を揃えて一直線に並び、その両側には梵鐘を吊った鐘楼と、経典を収蔵した経蔵、僧は起居する東僧房・西僧房などがありました。

これらの建物は塀と溝によって囲まれ、その規模は東西で約１５６ｍ、南北で約１３２ｍを測ります。また、塀の構造は掘立柱塀から築地塀へ変わったことも明らかになっています。中枢部の外側には、中門から南へ約６０ｍ離れて南門、東へ約２００ｍの地点に七重塔がそびえ、これらの堂塔は溝によって周囲と画されていました。さらに、金堂を中心とした東西約１．５ｋｍ、南北約１ｋｍの周囲には竪穴住居や掘立柱建物が広がり、寺院を支えていた集落は広域に及んでいたことがわかっています。

こちらは武蔵国分寺跡のお隣にある「講堂跡」です。

講堂は、経典の講義が行われた建物です。武蔵国分寺の講堂は、桁行5間、梁行4間の二面庇の東西棟礎石建物として8世紀中頃に創建されましたが、9世紀後半に東西両側に各1間を増築して、金堂と同規模である桁行7間の四面庇建物として建て替えられました。

講堂の基壇は、創建・再建とも瓦積外装で、乱石積外装を施す金堂や七重塔とは大きく様相が異なります。建物の再建に伴って基壇自体も東西に増築しており、その規模は東西約42.2m、南北22.6mをはかります。

「鐘楼跡（しょうろうあと）」。

鐘楼は、時を告げる梵鐘を吊った建物です。古代寺院では、一般的に経蔵（経典を収める建物）と対になって配置されており、武蔵国分寺では金堂・講堂の東側を鐘楼、西側を経蔵と推定いしています。

建物の平面規模が法隆寺の鐘楼、経蔵とほぼ同じであることから、構造も法隆寺と同様に１階に屋根のない２階建てで西側を正面とする「楼造」の可能性があります。

「中門跡」。

中門は金堂などの主要建物と南門（南大門）の間に設けられた門です。武蔵国分寺では伽藍をとり囲む塀の南面中央に設けられており、金堂・講堂の中心を通る伽藍中心軸に位置しています。

七重塔跡がある公園。

ここに昔七重塔が立っていたんです。七重塔を持つ国分寺は"国の華"であると詔にあるように、七重塔は鎮護国家を目的として建てられた国分寺のシンボルでした。

武蔵国分寺の七重塔は、主要な建物の中でも最初に造られ、塔の高さはおよそ60ｍあったと推定されています。先日「旧本多家住宅長屋門」を散策した記事（記事はこちら）で登場した七重塔の模型は市内北町の田中為義棟梁が復元模型設定書を参考に10分の１スケールの縮尺で製作したものです。

大昔から時代の変遷を見続けてきたんのでしょうね。
