As you may know from my several posts, there are many beautiful temples in Thailand and architecture in each temple is unique due to the difference of culture and tradition in each region.

Apart from the beauty of the architecture, temples normally act as the center of people’s minds and there are some beliefs of people that you can touch via the sacred things in the temples.

For example….

Wat Tham Sumano or Sumano Cave Temple (Tham means cave) - It is a meditation center of Phatthalung province, in the South of Thailand.

Most of the area of Wat Tham Sumano is covering two mountains, shaded by abundant forest. The temple has beautiful scenery of Banthat mountain ranges.

Inside the caves, apart from awesome stalactites and stalagmites, there are also many sacred Buddha statues for people to worship.

Besides, the caves are peaceful and great for meditation.

On important Buddhist Days, many people normally gather together in the temple and make a merit by giving food to people for free and giving money to the temple as you can see the long foodstands and the money trees as well.

Wat Nam Hu - It is one of the oldest temples in Pai, Mai Hong Son province, in the North of Thailand.

The architecture is in Lanna style.

There is an ancient well which water is believed to be holy and is popularly used for worship to bring good fortune.

Wat means temple

Nam means water

Hu is the northern Thai language means hole

The name of the temple, Wat Nam Hu, comes from the water flowing out of Hu or hole.

Sala is a tree that is related to the life of the Lord Buddha, i.e. his birth, enlightenment and nirvana. The Lord Buddha was born under a Sala tree and before his enlightenment and nirvana, he was near a Sala tree. Therefore, there are Sala trees in many temples in Thailand.

The blooming Sala flowers also decorate the temples beautifully.
