A trip to Tumalog Falls and the Heritage Park in Oslob – Philippines

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

While researching about things to do in Oslob, besides Whale Shark Watching, we found an article about a beautiful waterfall nearby. We quickly found the name, Tumalog Falls, and after looking at some pictures we knew we had to go and check it out. Also not far from the falls is the Heriatge Park in Oslob and since I always like to see some historic sites when I travel, this was the perfect destination before going back to the resort.

Tumalog Falls
The Tumalog Falls is only a short ride away from the Whale Shark watching area and is accessed by a steep paved road. It is a nice ride going up into the mountain area near Oslob. After we arrived on the hilltop, where you can also park your bike, we had to pay a small entrance fee before we could move on. From there you have to walk down a steep road for maybe another 15 minutes or you can hire one of the habal-habal drivers to bring you there. Once we arrived at the falls we could already feel the water in the air. The falls are very misty and have umbrella like stones that cascade fine strands of cold, fresh mountain water in a rain like fashion. It is just a breathtaking sight, absolutely beautiful. At the bottom of the falls is large pool perfect for a swim on a hot, sunny day. There are no small stores or anything in the area that detract from the natural beauty of this place, which is a good thing in my opinion. So if you plan to stay there a little longer, don’t forget to bring some food and drinks. We stayed there for a little while to take some photos, relax and just admire the beauty of the falls. Actually we were pretty lucky to be almost alone there, it was a fantastic experience.

Heritage Park
Our next stop was the Heritage Park in Oslob. The park consists of different buildings from the Spanish colonial era such as the Immaculate Conception Church, the Cuartel and the Baluarte. Also included is a beautiful Baywalk. Only a few meters away from the national road is the Immaculate Conception Church, one of the oldest churches that can be found in Cebu. The foundation was laid in 1830 and the construction was completed in 1848. It was said that the church was built from corals gathered from the sea nearby. Just a few meters away from the church is the Cuartel which served as barracks for the Spanish soldiers but never got finished. On the other side of the park is the the Baluarte, one of 7 watchtowers built along the coast of Oslob in 1788. There are a lot of  interesting things to discover at the Heritage Park, a lot more than I can mention here. It is definitely a must visit for everyone who is interested in history. We ended the day with a stroll along the beautiful Baywalk, enjoying the view on the ocean before going back to the resort.

The Falls are really amazing. :)

Good old Philippines! I heard Oslob was good but I ran out of time and didn't get a chance to see it. Last year I did a small loop of Lapu Lapu, Cebu, Moalboal, Dumaguete, Siquijor, Bohol and back to Cebu. Oh well, gives me a reason to go back...

Oslob is nice, quite a few things to see there. Sounds like a great loop! We wanted to go to Siquijor but had to cancel the trip and Bohol is also still on our bucket list. :D

We rented a bike and went around the island. I'd really recommend it. Do the Tarsier conservation and then the chocolate hills
