Some fall photos of Camp Chesterfield

in travel •  6 years ago

I was out and about with @ladyvinci a while back

We went to Camp Chesterfield to walk around and hang out for a bit. Life then happened and I haven't gotten back to the photos I took that day till now. I have written about Camp Chesterfield before last year. If you want to know all the tourist details for Camp Chesterfield you can find that piece I wrote here. Camp Chesterfield is a magical place year round. Here are some fall photos I took there a few weeks ago. You can see the summer time photos on the link I shared above.

For those who wondered what is inside the creepy room in the stone chapel

This visit I had someone with me, so I was able to go inside and take a photo of the statue inside the creepy room in the stone chapel. That room creeps me out and I can't go in it when I am by myself. I love Camp Chesterfield and feel at peace when I am there except in the room, it creeps me the heck out.

WOW, that place is beautiful! The first photo looks like a painting.
Also, "camp Chesterfield" totally translated in my head as "camp Couch," like my brain thought it was translating, lol.

lmao too funny, I know camp couch... Couch lock causes camp couch lmao

Kitties on lap causes camp couch, lol!

I've never been in the little chapel even though I've driven around Camp Chesterfield on numerous occasions and ate in the cafeteria one year when one of my friends (two grades ahead of me) was working there. She ended up meeting her first boyfriend there, as he also had a summer job, even though she married someone else (a guy about two grades ahead of her in high school) after she graduated from high school. I was always impressed with how beautiful this little community was where each house was unique and charming with beautiful landscaping. No litter. No blight.

The creepy feeling you get in the chapel reminds me of the bad vibes I picked up from the damper on the fireplace in the place that was home to my folks and me from 1954 until 1967.

I've just made a blog-entry leading to that story in an updated way.

This is a story that has led to a lot of speculating, and, when you mentioned how it was easier to explore the chapel when you had a friend with you, I know that, in the case of the damper, when there were more people with me when it was exposed, the less creepy it was.

I know that Aunt Ruby told my folks that they were enabling me when they allowed me to cover the damper again each time it became uncovered. She thought that I would get used to seeing it and would go back to my having neutral feelings about it.

Anyway, there seems to be something that people pick up on in this or that object, place, etc. -- and I believe that you and I are picking up on some kind of history associated with the damper (me) and the interior of the chapel (you).
