I was running the Haiti section of an international NGO in Anse-A-Pitres. It certainly isn't a place that a lot of people vacation in, and there are a lot of reasons for that, but I was there long enough that I got to see some of the beauty that can be found. I love Haiti for the people and the scenery, but there are a lot of problems that need addressing there.
If you do plan to make a trip to Haiti, make sure that you read everything you can first, plan meticulously, expect to be charged much higher prices because you are a foreigner, and do make extensive plans on how to stay safe. This isn't just related to theft, but also to health.
