Nihonbashi

Nihonbashi is an area in central Tokyo, located northeast of Marunouchi and Tokyo Station.

It's named after the bridge Nihonbashi (日本橋) which means "Japan Bridge" has been used to mark Kilometre Zero for Japan's national highway network since the early Edo Period.

The original wooden bridge was rebuilt using stone during the Meiji Period.

In the 1960s an expressway was constructed following the path of the canal below.
