Explore Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon had been on my Bucket List forever! It was someplace I'd never been in life, as my parents never took me to National Parks on trips when I was young. Of course, there are no canyons in Korea;;

I'd lost interest in the Grand Canyon and somehow it sort of slipped off of my bucket list and didn't seem so Grand but we were going to be traveling somewhat nearby it and I really wanted to take my son and know that we had experienced together. I think that made me really excited about it again.

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters).

The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.

Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted.While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon. [wikipeida]

It was truly one of the 7 wonders of the world. People from all over the place visits this place. I saw cars with license plates coming as far as New Jersey & Virginia.

The entrance fee is now $30 per car and the ticket is good for 5 or 7 days, which is not bad if you're staying nearby for a few days. The Park opens at 9:00am and if you get there at 10:00am, you will see cars lined up trying to get in......traffic moves very slow. So plan accordingly.

Bring Food and Drinks. It's very expensive inside the park no matter where you go. It's also very crowded and parking is limited for each view area. It shouldn't be a problem if you go early. We walked all the view points.....it's not that bad. Got a good workout walking all stops. We walked instead of taking the bus. Tour buses are free once you're inside the park.

The weather is unpredictable. Wear layers, comfortable shoes, bring a hat, sunscreen & camera.
I enjoyed every minute of our stay here. This place is simply amazing.
