PIONEER PARK
This 52 acre rustic community park is a rock climber's paradise. From Dixie Rock, also known as the Sugarloaf, spectacular views of downtown, White Dome, Zion National Park and Arizona can be seen. This park has a large trellis pavilion with two barbecues and fire ring, several smaller picnic areas with tables, two with metal trellis pavilions, and a separate fire pit with an amphitheater. Numerous hiking trails provide access to a Boy Scout Cave, historical pioneer cabin location, slot canyons and a connection into the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.
Since the days of the first settlers to the area, St. George has been called Utah’s Dixie. On what is sometimes called “the sugarloaf” lies the word “DIXIE” in bold white letters on red rock as the background.
These red rocks make St. George unique and attract people from all over the world. The Dixie Red Rock is located above the city of St. George in what is known as Pioneer Park and offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding area. Hiking and climbing are favorites here and the park includes picnic tables and a pavillion that allows for BBQing. If you are visiting St. George this is a must see!
One of the best attractions in pioneer park is Little Narrows. Little Narrows is located in the entrance of St. George's Pioneer Park. The canyon is so narrow you will need to turn sideways to get through...! The slot canyon is just a few feet from the parking lot and there are plenty of other neat rock formations you can explore. So, it is so close to get there.
The slot itself gets really narrow and you must squeeze your way through, it is about 9" at the narrowest spot. The slot canyon isn't very long, maybe .1 miles, and it doesn't take too long to go through (depending on the line). Near the end, you must climb out of the slot canyon; it is really easy for adults, but children may need a little help. Most people start at the bottom and climb up and out, but occasionally people will start at the opposite end and come out at the bottom; once in the slot, you cannot pass people, so be sure you are heading the same direction as everyone else.
I tried to get through it. I was so worried that if there'd be scratch on my camera.
When you climb the Dixie Rock, you can see the whole view of the town. It was so great. My suggestion is come here at sunset. It was so fascinating.
Look this beautiful sunset in St. George.
If you have any chance to visit here, why don't you tried it?
