The Monkey Infested Baku Caves

Gold statues, bag snatching monkeys, and bat filled caves. That's what awaits you if you make the journey to Baku Caves a one to two hour car ride outside of Kuala Lumpur.

Upon arrival the first thing you'll notice is a MASSIVE gold statue sitting next to a gigantic set of stairs. The statue itself is fairly new,but what awaits you at the stairs top isn't quite so shinny.

The steps are steap and many but along the way you'll find plenty of mischievous monkeys to keep you entertained. Throughout the climb you'll notice many monkeys within arms reach. They're fairly smart creatures so they won't attack their main source of food(you can buy bananas to feed them) but they will try to steal any small bags you have which may contain food.

Upon reaching the top of the stairs you'll find the cave enterence opens into a massive room which contains a century old Buddhist temple. Outside of India it is one of the most renowned. That said I liked the cave best for its natural beauty.

If you dare, there are also tours of the darker 100% natural caves located half way up the staircase. These caves are moss covered, bat filled, and darker then the night. It's an awesome world that exists outside if man's normal realm. I'd definitely recommend the tour as you'll learn a bit, hear the echos of thousands of bats and see some crazy bugs.

Overall if you're in Kuala Lumpur I'd definitely recommend a visit to Baku Caves. It wasn't the high point of my visit but it definitely was a highlight!

Glad to hear you like it 😊

I have heard all about those monkeys...it seems a fascinating place.

If you're in Kuala Lumpur it's a must see for sure.

Batu caves is probably one of my horror filled travel stories. We happened to visit there on a Hindu holiday, so it was literally packed with people up and down the stairs... Looks like you guys were okay!!

When we were there it was busy but never had to wait in line or slow down due to congestion.
