... on a very hot day!

We arrived in Krabi yesterday afternoon, and it was the complete opposite of what I had imagined (but not in a bad way). We boarded the ferry at Tonsai pier. The journey to Krabi lasted about 1h45m on a very rough ocean. When you get to the pier you are bombarded with taxi drivers, however, I have to say that their fares are much cheaper than in Phuket. We checked in at Sleep Whale in Krabi Town which is extremely affordable and very neat and clean. Plus, we were upgraded to a deluxe room at no extra charge!

After a good night's sleep in blissful peace and quiet, we left the hotel in search of a Western breakfast which we have been craving for a few days. It seems that most business are closed on Sundays, al though I am not sure if this applies throughout the year (it might be because of the rainy season). We walked down in the direction of the river, and stumbled upon Easy Cafe where we ordered iced coffee and two simple, yet very delicious breakfasts. I noticed that Krabi is much cheaper than Phuket and Phi Phi which was very welcomed. For example, in Phuket we paid around THB40 for a bottle of water, on Phi Phi around THB60, and in Krabi THB10. The cost of an average meal in a restaurant is also much more affordable (around THB120).

Despite it being unusually hot today, it was not yet necessary to rent a scooter or car. We walked a circular route for which you don't have to follow a map as the main road along the river makes a natural 'U' shape. There is quite a lot to see from giant sculptures to quirky little cafes, and interesting shops and other businesses. When you follow this route you walk past government buildings, the local police station, and a few schools which is quite interesting to see. After walking for about 1h30m we pulled in at the Old West Bar for a beer, and decided to have dinner there tonight on which I will report back to you tomorrow. It is still quite rainy here, but I am trying to take photos as much as I can in order to share the full experience with you (I was quite lucky today).
