Hidden Gem: Azure Window, Malta, a Treasure That No Longer Exists

in travel •  7 years ago

Every traveler dreams of finding one… A hidden gem, a unique, special place none knows… A piece of Paradise on Earth, untouched by the masses… We @travelingstories want to share with you these special places, so you can wonder at them like we did!

This time, we’ll talk about a special place that doesn’t exist anymore… The Azure Window, in Malta!

Located in the Island of Gozo, the second biggest island of Malta, the Azure Window was a limestone arch of 28-meter-high, which has disappeared in the beginning of 2017, after a violent storm.

Unfortunately, it’s now a real “hidden gem”, underneath the crystal-clear water of the Mediterranean Sea…

This magical place became famous after being pictured in the Dothraki mariage between Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen in the TV Show Game of Thrones (which is just awesome!).

Although the place no longer exists you can still visit it, go on a boat ride under the clifs and into the sea, or even swim above the fallen arch), we @travelingstories wanted to share with you the beautiful photos we’ve taken of the place!

Thanks for joining us @travelingstories on our… Traveling Stories! Stay tuned for more on Malta, Greece, Italy and much, much more and… Merry Christmas to all Steemians out there! :)

Great article. I was born in Gozo and the window was always there. We have seen huge chunks fall off every year but never expected that everything would be gone.
