Hidden Gem: Fiskardo, Kefalonia, Greece

Every traveler dreams of finding one… A hidden gem, a unique, special place none knows… A piece of Paradise on Earth, untouched by the masses… We @travelingstories want to share with you these special places, so you can wonder at them like we did!

This time, we’ll talk about this awesome town by the sea… Fiskardo!

Fiskardo is a small town by the sea, located in the North of the Greek Island of Kefalonia (whose beautiful beaches and amazing caves we @travelingstories already showed you). From Argostoli – the island capital – to this amazing small town you can expect an hour trip by car.

Arriving there, it’s probably that you’ll pass by Foki Beach, one of the Top 5 Beaches of Kefalonia that we’ve covered before, so you can relax before… Relaxing in Fiskardo. Because that’s what this place is all about: relax!

Our story of Fiskardo is quite interesting. So there was this day in our stay in Kefalonia in which we said “hey! Let’s go up North and see this Fiskardo village”. We had seen some photos on the internet before, so we were really interested in getting there. We put ourselves on our way, went to Foki Beach before and, after that, a 10 minute car ride was enough to… Reach a parking lot in the place Fiskardo was supposed to be.

We looked around, went through a small street… Nothing. No Fiskardo in sight. “Is the GPS wrong?” Nope, there was a traffic sign with “Fiskardo” written on it… We came back through the main street and noticed a few people on a beach, but nothing like the photos we had seen. Disappointed, we decided to give up on Fiskardo and get back to our stay…

But, we @travelingstories are incredible stubborn and in the last minute, we parked the car and went on foot to explore the small streets between the small houses, until we found it out! What a real hidden gem, protected from the crowds by a barrier of houses and a jealous parking lot: Fiskardo!

A charming place, with tons of restaurants where you can eat while enjoying the quietness of a small bay… Incredible, what an amazing experience!

Of course, we couldn’t do much more than just sit down by the water and enjoy seeing boats coming and going, while we wondered the amazing experience of what is like to be in Greece: good weather, the sea and… Relaxation at maximum levels! (And great ice creams!)

Very nice! But ice-cream is better in Italy ;-)

I have to agree with you, Italian gelato is the best! And we @travelingstories found out the best indeed: at San Gimignano (check the end of the post :))!

Yeah, I will. I loved the sea in Greece and must say a great experience as food was delicious (except for ice-cream hahaha :-) All the best!
