Hidden Gem: Saint Peter’s Pool, Malta

in travel •  7 years ago

Every traveler dreams of finding one… A hidden gem, a unique, special place none knows… A piece of Paradise on Earth, untouched by the masses… We @travelingstories want to share with you these special places, so you can wonder at them like we did!

This time, we’ll talk about Saint Peter’s Pool, in Malta!

Saint Peter’s Pool is a small cove in the South of the Island of Malta, one of the most amazing countries we @travelingstories have been to. Being an archipelago in the South of the Mediteranean Sea, you can obviously expect warm weather and sun shining for your vacations at Malta, but, we @travelingstories tell you: expect more, much more!
As you’ll see on our blog, Malta has a lot to offer and to visit this beautiful and diverse small country will be such an amazing experience you will remember for the rest of your lives! :)

But, focus on Saint Peter’s Pool, now!

Why is it a hidden gem? Well, no bus stop, no taxis around, no beach bar supporting it, no nothing. Just a small road up the hill, close to a power plant and a place that hardly gets too crowded!

At Saint Peter’s pool you can enjoy the sun, relax and jump to the water from various heights, depending on the level of your courage :)

We advise you to take some diving or snorkeling masks, so you can wonder the bottom of the sea and the many fish that can be spotted around. Oh! And take water, supplies and sunscreen, since there’s no beach bar around (at least, when we @travelingstories have been there – 2016 –, we could only find an abandoned one…). Also, if you don’t like to jump, there are some stairs where the rocks are closer to sea level. (You can see the stairs on the right bottom of the next photo!)

Now you’re wondering… How do I reach it, right? Well, we’ve got some traveling tips for you! If you rented a car on the island of Malta, it’s going to be easier. Just search on Google Maps (you can even use it offline) and follow the road. Saint Peter’s Pool has a small, dirt parking lot that you can use to park your car or motorcycle.

If you are on your own, you’ll have to go to Marsaxlokk, a charming fishing village in the South of Malta. You can reach it by bus, directly from Valletta, the amazing capital of this European country that we will be covering soon @travelingstories.

From Marsaxlokk, you can go by taxi, but make sure you arrange an agreement with the taxi driver, so he can grab you later at Saint Peter’s Pool (remember that there’s nothing near it!). It will be a ten-minute ride.

Or… You can be an adventurer and point to the electric power plant we’ll see at the horizon and move toward it, turn left on the road that is a dead end before reaching it, when you see a dirt track climbing up the hill. And climb. And climb. And climb just a little bit more :)

Then you’ll find another road that will lead you to the parking lot of Saint Peter’s pool, if you turn right. It will take you roughly half an hour and you can also ask at Marsaxlokk tourist center for directions but, there you will be!
