FACT: We have the travel bug

Hello fellow Steemians,

The matter of the fact is...we have the travel bug

We recently came back from our festive holidays in Ethiopia. Why Ethiopia? Becca's dad is posted there for work and invited us over to spend Christmas and NYE with him. We had an amazing time there and this will be documented in a blog post later this week. However, when we came back we were happy to be back home and to relax, yet we had the desire to go out on another journey again. We have the travel bug!

Sam has always had the desire to see the world from an early age. He was brought up as a 'third culture kid'. Born in Bangkok to a Thai mother and a British father, but was brought up in another country other than his parents'. Eventually, he managed to live in England when he attended University at the age of 18 and he now lives in Thailand, but he had never lived in neither country prior to this. He had been back to both countries on holidays and kept in touch with their own unique cultures through his holiday experiences and parent's knowledge. Yet, this sort of upbringing did question where his home was. On the turn of the coin, it also gave immense opportunity to declare himself as a global citizen. He is not regretful of not having a 'home' as such, but optimistic of the experiences, friends and life he has and will continue getting. The foundation of this desire to see new places and meet new people stemmed from his upbringing. He often goes to a new country with high expectations to experience things not only as a tourist, but as a local.

Becca has been surrounded by cultures from different parts of the world from a young age. Born and lived in Portugal with her British parents, her mother has ties to Ireland and her father spent the majority of his upbringing in Maasai land and other areas in Kenya. She grew up learning Portuguese and going to local schools up until the age of 15 when she moved to study in England. She developed what you call "the travel bug" more so in her teens when she was still living in Portugal with her mother, but her father was based in Mozambique for work. She spent many school summer holidays visiting Mozambique, Malawi and South Africa, then had the chance to travel more during University due to the nature of her undergraduate and postgraduate course.

The question we always ask as travel addicts is 'where to next?' This is often tricky as there are so many places we want to visit, yet it is simple at the same time due to our circumstances. It is all dependent on what interests you have, your budget and your time-frame. The practicalities of our circumstance is that we can afford in time and money to travel around 3-4 times a year, but that is only abroad. There is so much to see on your doorstep and we hope to show you more about our experiences living in Bangkok. Ultimately, travel is not about the destination, but the experience you gain.
