TRAVELMAN in THAILAND (again): A Day Trip to Erawan Falls

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

I went to Erawan falls for the day. It’s about three and a half hours to the west of Bangkok. I took a tour that the travel agent at the hostel sold me for 1000 Baht. It was a better option than spending the night there because the bus ride each way would have cost 400 baht, so a good deal relatively.

I talked to twin sisters from Germany on the mini-van for a brief time. One of them was working on her Phd in Oceanography in New Zealand. She said there’s not that many opportunities to be by the ocean in Germany.

Erawan falls has seven levels, just like Dante’s seven levels of hell except without the eternal fire and agony, instead there’s swimming and snacks. Dante was originally going to write about a seven level waterfall and call his book Dante Chasing Waterfalls. His publisher nixed that idea. His publisher implored him, “Fire sells, that’s why they call them fire sales, Dante! I’m working for you Dante! Help me, help you! I’m telling you, Inferno! ....Better yet, Fifty Shades of Fire, what do you think?”

Nothing better than getting out to a nice quiet place to get on Snapchat...

See that broken step? I almost broke my neck slipping on that on the way back down the trail. My foot went flying up in the air, but thanks to my ninja-like balance I didn’t fall.

The easy part of the trail...

There were three areas like this along the seven level trail. I assume these are some kind of religious offerings... Or maybe the park workers need more closet space.

At the seventh level you can dip your feet in the water and the fish come up and give you a free massage, they nibble on your feet. I think they eat the dead skin. In Siam Reap I would’ve had to pay for this.

A lot of freight trucks in Thailand are elaborately decorated like this...

More mud flaps with a movie star on them. Can’t identify this guy though. What’s up with these? ...

There’s a line of restaurants and souvenir stores outside the park. No alcohol is supposed to be sold, but if you go to the guy at the last in the line of stores, he may have something for you on the down low.

And wild hogs make themselves at home here just like goats at the gas station...

I love that place, but when I was swimming I couldn't stop moving because those fish nibbling, freaked me out! Nice post, that wild boar/pig is a monster!

Sabaidikaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
1)The caption of photo of people going in the nature to be on snapchat made me laugh! How mad is that some people get lost themselves in their screens? I myself think I am too addicted and office work makes me sick. Next weekend I want to do just nature, pool and painting.
2)I tried this fish pedicure in Siem Reap and it is so ticklish, I can't bear it.

  1. Wild hogs are cute and cuddly!
I'm looking to hear about your vacation in India, as I am planning to be there for 20 days in April. Hope Nepal will treat you well!

I’ve been reading about visiting India, it’s not going to be the cake walk that SE Asia was...Adventure! The fish do tickle. I had to concentrate to hold my feet still, especially when they went for my toes.

Great phots. Looks like an amazing place to see. The water looks crystal clear :) glad you survived the broken step ;)

Thanks, I’m glad I survived as well. I had that split second of time slowing down where my brain said this is going to end badly if we don’t do something. Water was crystal clear.
