An amazing road trip from San Diego to Valley of Fire. A trip definitely worth it.
Approximately 400 miles north east of San Diego which takes around 6 hrs drive to reach assuming no traffic. Its just an hour and a half drive from Vegas and yet not known to many travelers.
The best time to visit is Early morning or for a sunset. The whole valley turns red like lava. The view is mesmerizing and a drive there is simply magnificent. There is $10 fees to access this area. It also provides a closer way to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.
There are multiple camp sites near by (http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire) . It's a Mecca for star gazing and the drive around this area has no words. It has been used for shooting automobile commercials & Hollywood movies.
The best attraction is Elephant rock. There is a short hike to find this rock.
Beautiful
