Visiting Taiwan's abandoned UFO village [EN/DE]

Hey guys! Today I would like to tell you about a very special and pretty weird place in Taiwan. It's an abandoned village where there are actually houses that look like UFOs. By chance I saw a report about this place on German television some months ago. Since I am totally fascinated by lost places, I was immediately excited and knew that I wanted to go there when I was in Taiwan. Last month I finally had the chance to do that!

Hallo Leute!

The UFO village is located on Taiwan's north coast, only about 20km from the capital Taipei. It is part of the small town of Wanli. The UFO houses are incredibly easy to reach by bus from Taipei. The journey takes only an hour and the closest bus stop is located only a few meters away from them.

To my surprise I was still the only tourist there. I strolled along the deserted streets, could even look at some houses from the inside and didn't see a single person during my entire exploration tour. That made the whole thing of course even more creepy and I didn't feel quite so comfortable all the time, I must honestly admit.

The houses were built in the late 60s and were supposed to be part of a holiday village. Unfortunately, it soon turned out that they heated up too much in summer due to their construction and were therefore uninhabitable. In addition, it is said that the partly very superstitious residents of Taiwan didn't come due to a cemetery that is located nearby.

Some of the abandoned houses can even be entered and the destroyed interior can be seen. The dull, cloudy weather and the almost spooky silence in combination with the destruction really created a dense apocalyptic atmosphere. You need strong nerves to concentrate on taking photos, especially when you are alone there.

It is hard to believe that one can find such an amazing lost place only a short bus ride from the hectic hustle and bustle of the Taiwanese capital and that one has it all to oneself. If you ever visit Taipei and want to go on an adventurous day trip, don't miss the abandoned UFO village!

See you soon/Bis bald!
Stefan

Oh wow - this is amazing! I'm a lover of abandoned places as well but there aren't so many in Europe (if you know of any good ones let me know :D), especially not near The Netherlands that is always cleaning up everything that is abandoned ;-) This is one I'll put on my list - hope to visit it someday. Great it was so easy to reach as well :-)

Thank you! Yes, I know, in Europe it's not so easy to find abandoned places. The best one I've visited is the Chernobyl exclusion zone in Ukraine, but of course it's pretty far from the Netherlands. Maybe you can find a cheap flight to Kiev, it's worth it! :-)

Wow what a crazy place!! Looks unreal! Kindof a shame it's abandoned, would be fun to re-inhabit these strange houses, but if they heat up too much I guess it won't do. Cool place though! if definitely go if I come to Taiwan!

Yes, I was also thinking that it would be nice stay for a few days inside a house like that, it was such a cool idea and project, really a pity that this place was abandoned. Nevertheless it's still a tourist attraction :-)

Awesome walkthrough! I just love that places like this exist to explore 😊

Thank you! Yes, me too! :-)

Das ist der Hammer! Spektakuläre Aufnahmen von einem ganz besonderen Ort. Danke fürs Teilen.

Hey, danke dir! Freut mich, dass dir die Aufnahmen gefallen! :-)

I wish I had read this article last year. I went to Taipei and didn't hear about this place until now. Such a shame I missed it. The place looks so cool!
