TwinnerTravels - Sardinia (10) - Nuraghe Su Nuraxi near BaruministeemCreated with Sketch.

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Steemians,

welcome to the tenth part of our trip on the island of Sardinia.

On the way to our last lodging near Cagliari we made a detour to the prehistoric site Su Nuraxi. The facility is located near the village of Barumini in the south of Sardinia.

The archaeological site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 15-meter-high ruins of the main tower can be seen from a distance.

The complex can only be accessed during a guided tour. In the picture you can see our guide inside the tower in the background a room with a simulated fireplace inside the tower.

The tower can only be reached by stairs.

View from above down into the tower.

View from the bottom of the tower up to the sky.

Around the tower there are also the remains of the walls of other buildings.

For more informations about this site please read http://www.italia.it/en/travel-ideas/unesco-world-heritage-sites/barumini-the-nuraghi.html.

In the surroundings of Barumini there are some cone-shaped mountains, which gave the Marmilla region its name (Marilla = brest shaped).

Thank you for reading!

I really like your series on Sardine. As mentioned before, this island will be higher up my list of destinations. The ruins are just great with the kinda blueprint still in tact. In Egypt I saw such blueprint of a complete village used by the workers to build tombs.

Thank you very much @edje. According to http://www.italia.it/en/travel-ideas/unesco-world-heritage-sites/barumini-the-nuraghi.html it's assumed that the facility was founded around 1000 BC. The eqypt empire was at its end at this time, but it's possible or should be assumed that eqyptian construction knowledge found its way from Egypt to Sardinia.

The link you provided is really interesting read! A civilisation that lasted for about a 1.000 years. And the ruins build that strong the tower floors are still intact; That is construction building! And indeed, the Egypt knowledge may have helped. I'm always wondering about how such knowledge could be preserved in detail, since the pyramid and tomb architects and I think also the main builders would be killed after the project finished to make sure the secret entrances are kept secret. Buut also on that point, I'm wondering how that have worked, it is relatively easy to communicate to others and in timeframes of 10-40+ years the construction of tombs and pyramids was ongoing, it is almost impossible information did not get leaked.

I doubt that the pyramids were build by humans with their simple prehistoric tools. Check out this german page using google translator.

Zwei Jaaaahre?? Das wär mir zu lang!

Thank you very much @blazing.

oh, it looks great! how could i miss previous 9 parts?! ^_^

Thank you very much @reinikaerrant. It's currently difficult to catch any post on steemit, to many new users with too many posts :-)

it's true :) sometimes im missing even posts of people im following... but still there are more chances to find the posts i like in the list of people i follow, so that's where im keeping your blog now ^_^

I really enjoyed your shots!
Nice location!

Thank you very much @ol-graphic-art

Nach den Bildern her zu urteilen, ist Sardinien ja wirklich eine Reise wert. Sehr schöne Fotos! Danke fürs teilen :-)

Vielen Dank Silke

Hi Twinner! I think Sardinia might just be one of the loveliest islands in the world! It's amazingly beautiful and somehow it hasn't been changed too much by tourism but stays authentic.

I was there on my honeymoon trip and I found the most amazing restaurant by pure luck, in the mountains between Porto Cervo and Olbia. Are you ever planning on visiting Sardinia again?

Hi @fitzgibbon, of course we want to visit Sardinia in the future again. But there are no real plans at the moment.

Well, if you ever do visit again - go here - the most awesome food experience I've ever had, only authentic Sardinian local stuff. It's quite a steep uphill drive, but it is so worth it:

(the picture is a google maps link)

Thank you for this tip. My wife loves agritourism. Hope we will check it out :)

This is beautiful!! I have never been to Sardinien and have to put it on the list of places to visit. My sister lives in Italy. Maybe time for a visit.
Thank you for sharing your trip!

Fantastic photography! I hope to see more from you. I occasionally post a few myself, feel free to check my blogs whenever you find time.

Great pictures:-)
Looks like a very historical place. Love it

nice trip!

Hey there my Twinner Steemit friend. Last night I watched Anthony Bourdaine No Reservations "Sardinia" Episode. Wow what a cool place, Maybe I didn't read your posts close enough but the way it's described is like Italy's red headed step sister.

The show focuses on food and culture which I'm all about. It's like a real intense Italian. Would you agree? Lots of Game and wild animals showed up on the dinner table in his show, from pigeon to rabbit to small little pigs roasted whole. Did you find the food to be anything extra special while there? Hope you are well and having a great day! -Dan

Thx, very nice post.. regards from holland... who don't go to the worldcup 2018 ;-(

Wow, du hast ja ganz schön viel fotografiert... in nur 2 Wochen. Jeder Schritt ein Foto ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Die Form des Hügels ist tatsächlich auffällig! Hatte ich noch nie gesehen.
