Tree Tuesday as Travel History Post

During our recent vacation in Djerba we also enjoyed some trip to visit old traditional Berber settlements to see how these people lived in the past. A nice old community can be found on the island with a lot of Trees (or palms).

About the Berbers

The Berbers descent is North Africa and there are lot communities across Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Egypt to name the most known ones. The Berbers name themselves Imazighen and speak various dialects / languages related to Ancient Egyptian. Nowadays the majority of Berbers live in Morocco and Algeria as well as large immigrant communities in Europe and Canada. The Berbers live a strong identity across different languages and heritage which covers their joined history in North Africa which is what they mainly unite in terms of collective identification.

Cool shots and an interesting read thanks for sharing

The palm trees are always so dramatic in settings like that. Uwe did you get a chance to go inside one of the earth dwellings? I'm guessing it is cooler than one might expect.

Thx upvoted @roused

Wish I was where palms are growing!

I can't believe such beautiful trees can grow in such a dry, barren, wizened earth and look so alluring.
Great shots @uwelang!

Coole idee zum treetuesday und schöne exotische Bilder obendrein. Da spüre ich doch schon wieder etwas Ferienstimmung in mir aufkeimen. 😉
Dir und Deinen Lieben wünsche ich einen schönen Tag, Uwe!

Nice post @uwelang! Nice to see so many trees being planted and growing in such a dry area! Thanks for sharing! Upvoted :)

Wow, cool berm, but I would be so scared of the desert critters! But you have taken some great pics showing the character of this place. It's good that I can travel to different places through blogs like yours.

@uwelang thanks for sharing your story! It's very interesting. To be honest i've never heard about Berbers before. Another day on steemit and another new information :)
If you will find a minute kindly please check my new story about the market Koszyki (polish- shopping basket) in Warsaw. A modern, fashionable and glamorous hot place to meet, chat and eat :) cheers!

Yup - there are a million different trees on this small planet.

  • I noticed in (South) Korea that pines are considered exotic (they have dedicated pine parks) while over here you can fins a pine on almost everyone's garden and then a few millions in the forests...
  • These ones again looks exotic to me :)

@uwelang, that's a beautiful nature in display there. I never heard about the Berbers before. Thanks for sharing this.
