The Magdalena Ridge Observatory is atop South Baldy Mountain in Cibola National Forest, Magdalena, New Mexico, USA. The observatory and next door Langmuir Laboratory for Atmospheric Research are bein' built and run by New Mexico Tech in nearby Socorro.
They look at all kindsa stuff up there: atmospheric studies, exoplanet atmospheres, and track Earthbound asteroids.
Ya can't visit the observatory yet while it's still under construction. And it's a hellofa drive up the dirt road ta 10,600 ft (3,230 m) if ya ain't got 4WD. It's a 4,000 ft (1200 m) climb in just 7 miles (11 km).
But someday maybe ya can go visit. It's worth goin' up the road ta look around the scenery even now! There's a nice campin' spot 'bout 1/2 mile down from the entrance.
